Job description

Duties: The Lab Technician will conduct and support research in the Bugaj Lab, a new laboratory in the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania. Lab support responsibilities will include ordering, receiving, and maintaining inventory of lab supplies, preparing media and bacterial culture plates, cleaning/sterilizing glassware, and may include training and overseeing student workers to support these activities as needed. The technician may also find opportunities to conduct research activities under the supervision of Dr. Bugaj, following established protocols. Research activities may include sterile cell culture, standard molecular biology techniques (PCR, gel extractions, molecular cloning), and microscopy.

The Bugaj lab studies how cell signaling coordinates cell fate decisions using stem cells and cancer cells as models. The lab has expertise in developing and using optogenetic tools to manipulate signaling pathways in living cells.

Position is contingent on continued funding.

Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree in life sciences or related field (eg bioengineering, biomolecular engineering) and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Experience working in a wet lab is preferred.
