Organismal Biologist

Job description

Department: Biology Department

Job Summary and Requirements: Assistant Professor: The Department of Biology at Denison University invites applications from broadly-trained biologists for a tenure-track position beginning fall 2019. A PhD in biology or related field is required (by the first day of appointment); a strong potential for excellence in teaching and for a productive research program is essential. The Biology Department values the active engagement of undergraduate students in research. Teaching responsibilities include an introductory course in Multicellular Life (BIOL 220), an upper-level elective that would focus on the diversity of a particular taxonomic group (e.g., Biology of Insects, Biology of Fungi, etc), an additional upper-level elective course within organismal biology, and the potential to occasionally teach another introductory core course. The teaching load is 3 courses per year (each course with lab component). Although the candidate's research specialty is unrestricted, we expect that the successful applicant will integrate field-based research as a component of their scholarly agenda. Please visit www.denison.edu/biology for a description of our program, and employment.denison.edu for further information on the position. Upon hiring, the successful candidate for review and promotion displays excellent teaching, maintains a productive, ongoing research program, and actively contributes to activities outside of the classroom and laboratory at the level of the department, institution, and/or larger communities of interest. Denison University is an academically rigorous liberal arts college with an increasingly diverse campus community. It offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package. Denison is located in the village of Granville, 30 minutes from Columbus, Ohio, the state capital, which hosts a wide range of cultural and artistic opportunities. Granville also offers an excellent public school system and easy access to outdoor activities.
