Stanford's Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation (“DAPER”) supports the nearly 900 student-athletes who compete on the 36 intercollegiate athletic teams sponsored by the university. It also supports the campus physical education, recreation and wellness initiatives. Stanford's intercollegiate athletics department is seen as the premier athletic program in the country, achieving the highest levels of success both in the classroom and on the field. JOB PURPOSE

Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Athletics Director of Facilities and Operations, the Director, Facilities provides direct oversight and administration of the day to day facility operations of the Ford Center, Burnham Pavilion and SLAC Rec Center related to maintenance, scheduling, custodial services, game day operations, risk management, supervision of part-time staff and enforcement of departmental operating guidelines and procedures.

CORE DUTIES

Facility Management

  • Serve as facility operations, maintenance and janitorial point of contact.
  • Oversee preventative, routine and deferred maintenance on facility and fitness equipment.
  • Create and monitor status of work orders to ensure all repairs are done in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate annual facility maintenance shutdowns.
  • Coordinate facility for event setup/takedown and provide support during regular season home varsity games, university sponsored events, and outside events.
  • Cultivate an inclusive, safe, and diverse environment for staff, members and guests; address patron behavior, concerns, and conduct issues as necessary.

    Administrative and Programming
  • Schedule the facility according to the needs of the varsity programs, varsity sponsored club teams, university and student groups, and outside user groups.
  • Organize and implement programmatic initiatives at the SLAC Rec Center to include: one-off special events, team work out activities, SLAC Run & Walk, SLAC Race, BeWell Fair, Bike to Work Day, etc.
  • Coordinate the purchasing, inventory and maintenance of equipment related to the office spaces, mechanical rooms, facility fixtures and fitness equipment.
  • Prepare and monitor the annual facility and staffing budgets.
  • Oversee the SLAC Rec Center Manager.

    Risk Management
  • Implement facility security programs by developing procedures/practices, distributing keys, monitoring access points, assessing security infrastructure needs (security cameras, interlocks and alarms), and assessing/changing door access schedules.
  • Assist the Assistant Athletics Director with the administration and implementation of the safety and emergency response program for professional staff and contingent employees.
    Education and Experience
    • Bachelor's degree in the field of recreation, or related field.
    • Three years of related experience in recreation facilities management.
    • Three years of full-time experience in recreational programming.
    • Two years direct supervision of staff.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Analytical skills to analyze and track complex space, equipment and financial data.
    • Demonstrate interpersonal skills, mature judgment when interacting with a broad range of people, including faculty/vendors/stakeholders/program areas, both individually and in groups.
    • Ability to coordinate daily activities including scheduling multiple projects with competing priorities, measuring quality assurance, monitoring of maintenance activities, and supervision of personnel.
    • Knowledge of current risk management practices and emergency preparedness plans and their implementation in recreational facilities.
    • Ability to follow written and verbal directions and communicate those instructions.
    • Working knowledge of applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
    • Demonstrated ability to provide a high standard of customer service.

    Certifications and Licenses
    • CPR, AED and First Aid
    • Valid California Non-commercial Class Driver's License

    Physical Requirements
  • Frequently stand/walk, seated, performs desk-based computer tasks.
  • Occasionally climb (ladders, scaffolds or other), twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulders, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, use a telephone, writing by hand, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 20 pounds.
  • Rarely kneel/crawl, grasp forcefully, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh >40 pounds.

    Working Conditions
  • Routine work during evenings and weekends and occasional extended hours.
  • Requires 24-hour response availability seven days per week for emergency situations.
  • May be exposed to noise > 80dB TWA.
  • May work at heights 4 - 10 ft.

    This position, along with all DAPER coaches and staff, is responsible for the integrity of Stanford's intercollegiate athletics program and for the reputation of Stanford University.
