Director of Career Preparation and Employer Relations
Basic Functions: Prepares students and recent alumni to apply for early-stage professional and/or graduate school opportunities. Mobilizes the expertise and experience of the broader college community to assist students as they pursue those opportunities. Identifies, cultivates and stewards relationships with employers and graduate programs. Develop and build relationships with alumni, parents, employers, and graduate schools to enhance recruitment efforts of Denison students and young alumni. Work collaboratively with on-campus partners including faculty members and other administrators. Coach individual students throughout their career exploration process.
Essential Job Functions: *Lead the Career Preparation & Employer Relations team that readies students for post-graduate opportunities and builds relationship with alumni, parents, employers and graduate schools to provide those opportunities. Establish strategies and goals that will ensure success in these efforts. *Lead identification and development of programs that help accelerate current students' preparation for internship and job interviews as well as help build their technical skills in areas for which they are applying. *Engage alumni, parents, employers, advanced degree admissions officers, foundation officers, and other friends of Denison to create opportunities for Denison students and recent alumni. *Provide leadership of programs and technologies that connect students and recent graduates with the extended Denison community for career exploration activities, events, and referrals. *Build strong relationships with other Denison administrative offices and academic departments that will enhance the engagement of extra-campus constituents and to take advantage of the many alumni leadership, affinity, and identity groups (i.e. Varsity D Board, the President's Board of Advisors, Alumni Council, the Family Leadership Council, Black Alumni Association) along with regionally-based alumni clubs. *Serve as member of the Center's leadership team. Work closely with the Director of Career Exploration & Campus Engagement to optimally engage students throughout their career discernment process and assess student outcomes, programming, and other Knowlton Center initiatives. *Ensure the success of the Center's and Institutional Advancement's stewardship of alumni, employers, and other friends of Denison by providing useful, accurate, and timely information they need. *Advise students and recent alumni as a career coach. *Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree. Minimum of eight years of experience in higher education, business, or non-profit industry. Exceptional interpersonal skills and experience building relationship with key constituents. Ability to travel, both locally and out of region. Must possess a valid driver's license and be insurable by the College. Strong strategic and project management skills. Strong analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to produce and present polished presentations. Evidence of achievement as an empowering and energizing team leader. Ability to successfully coach and advise a wide variety of students and young alumni as they make the transition from undergraduate experience to employment and/or graduate school. Experience in advising on resumes, interviewing and job search strategies/correspondence. Willing and available to work nights and weekends as required.
Preferred Qualifications: Graduate degree in higher education, student personnel, counseling and guidance, business administration, or closely-related field. Experience motivating and managing volunteers.
