Associate Director, Career Preparation

Job description

Basic Functions: Coach individual students throughout their career exploration process, with focus on students interested in the financial services and/or consulting industries. The incumbent will have knowledge of business industries and provide that expertise in his/her coaching ability. Develop and steward relationships with employers to enhance recruitment efforts of Denison students and young alumni. Help students define their life goals and help them discern what kind of business career they seek by helping them evaluate their strengths. In addition to individual coaching there will opportunities to conduct student presentations and directly work with faculty and other staff members of the University. The incumbent should have strong skills in research and data analysis to determine impactful programming, strong execution skills and be able to build relationships with various constituency groups.

Essential Job Functions: *Serve as career coaching specialist for students interested in financial services and/or consulting industries. Coach students as they both explore career possibilities and ready themselves to interview and begin working in those careers. Engage alumni to serve as mentors and prepare students for interviews in these fields. *Assist in advising all students and recent alumni in self-assessment, decision-making, and job search skills. Research and maintain appropriate resources for students and alumni seeking internships and employment in the financial services and consulting industries. *Partner with Knowlton Center staff on the development of programs that help accelerate students' preparation for internship and job interviews as well as help build their technical skills in areas for which they are applying. *Create and deliver programming with a focus on finance, investments, consulting and/or relevant business areas to students and in collaboration with student organizations (i.e. Investment Club) or in academic departments. *Support and engage students in their disciplines by working with academic departments and faculty. Ensure that faculty have access to materials needed for referring students for career development support, and regularly engage faculty and students on support needs. *Assist in the overall planning of special programs and events such as First Looks (day long visits to local businesses), Career Readiness Boot Camp, Denison Internship Program, and OnBoard (online skill building program.) *Work with the Career Education team to develop and implement methods to assess student outcomes, programming, and other Knowlton Center initiatives. *Be the lead person to inform Knowlton Center team of relevant issues and/or events regarding the preparation of students for employment in financial services and consulting. *Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications: *Bachelor's Degree. Minimum of four years of experience in finance services, consulting, business, non-profit, or higher education. *Exceptional interpersonal skills and experience working with both young adults, peers, and valued partners. Ability to successfully coach and advise a wide variety of students and young alumni as they make the transition from undergraduate experience to employment and/or graduate school. Experience in advising on resumes, interviewing and job search strategies/correspondence. *Strong project management skills (from concept to execution). Strong analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills. *Excellent administrative and organization skills with attention to details. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. *Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to produce and present polished presentations. *Work close with multiple constituents of the Knowlton Center, including: students, faculty, administrators, alumni, parents, and employers. *Strong work ethic, a desire to innovate, and deliver outcomes for students. *Willing and available to work nights and weekends and occasional travel commitments, both locally and out of region.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree in Business Administration, Student Personnel, Counseling and Guidance, Higher Education, or closely-related field.
