Senior Director of Educational Effectiveness and Assessment

Loyola Marymount University seeks a Senior Director of Educational Effectiveness and Assessment to lead its Office of Assessment and provide key support in the design and implementation of institution-level, data-driven assessment projects. Building on existing strengths and joining a collective effort to maintain a culture of evidence and continuous improvement, the Senior Director will chair the Assessment Advisory Committee, serve as a primary advisor to the campus-wide Academic Planning and Review Committee, and facilitate the program review process for academic departments. She or he will work collaboratively with faculty, assistant and associate deans, the Accreditation Liaison Officer, the Registrar’s Office, Institutional Research, and other related offices. The Senior Director will also provide workshops, training, and consulting support to academic departments and programs in their assessment, program evaluation, and accreditation efforts.

 

Reporting to the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, the Senior Director will design and execute assessment processes to improve student learning in alignment with the institutional mission and strategic objectives. Other duties include 1) overseeing the academic assessment plan for the university and maintaining a record of academic program assessment projects and strategic initiatives; 2) leading and facilitating discussions of data-driven assessment and research findings with key constituencies; 3) partnering with the Accreditation Liaison Officer on regional accreditation activities with the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC); 4) overseeing campus-wide Academic Program Review and providing consulting support and feedback to academic departments in their assessment, program evaluation, and disciplinary accreditation efforts; 5) partnering with the Office of Institutional Research and Decision Support to oversee and coordinate the administration of national student surveys and other direct and indirect performance metrics; and 6) contributing to the Provost’s Office in areas related to academic and strategic planning. This is a twelve-month, non-faculty campus leadership position.

 

Qualifications and Application

LMU’s Senior Director of Educational Effectiveness and Assessment will undertake managerial responsibilities including staff and budget oversight. Qualified candidates should be familiar with LMU’s mission, vision, and values, and possess knowledge of issues that impact higher education, including diversity and multiculturalism.

 

To serve as Senior Director, typically a master’s degree is required, though a Ph.D. or relevant terminal degree is highly desirable. Demonstrated knowledge of key issues in higher education and in the areas of assessment of student learning, program evaluation, quantitative and qualitative research methods, research design, and statistical analysis is required. Familiarity with high impact practices, teaching methodologies, and a record of using assessment and other data to guide collaborative decision-making is also important. Strong candidates will exhibit exemplary communication skills and an ability to work collaboratively with administrators, faculty, staff, and accreditors. Experience with regional or professional accreditation processes is highly desired. Five or more years of experience in assessment in an institution of higher education is strongly preferred, as is experience in staff and budget management. Teaching experience at the postsecondary level is also highly desired.
