Vice President, Finance & Administration

Front Range Community College seeks applications from a collaborative and enthusiastic leader who will serve as the Chief Financial Officer for the college, leading all aspects of the college’s financial and business operations. The VPFA will provide strategic direction, leadership and operational oversight for fiscal services; budgets and auxiliary services; purchasing; information technology; contracts; campus security and preparedness; institutional research; and facilities planning, new construction and controlled maintenance. She/he will serve as a key advisor to the President and other college leaders, providing fiscal and budget guidance on all key college initiatives, making or contributing significantly to key decisions on capital development and facilities planning, compensation policies, program review and development, and overall college strategy.

Front Range Community College (FRCC) is the largest community college in Colorado, enrolling close to 29,000 credit students annually.   • Provides strategic direction and leadership for the departments and functions listed in the general summary, ensuring that each department supports the college’s mission and vision for student success, has strong department-level leadership, and operates efficiently and effectively. Ensures that all departments in his or her purview provide excellent service to their customers, whether they are students, staff, or others.
  • Oversees all the fiscal affairs of the college, including ensuring accurate and complete accounting of all college financial transactions and compliance with federal, state, system and college fiscal policies. Ensures that all purchasing and contracts comply with federal, state, and system policies and statutes.
  • Ensures the college has an effective forecasting model supporting the long term financial health of the college, and budgeting process that fairly allocates college resources, maintains proper controls of expenditures, and provides managers with timely and useful information.
  • Coordinates long-term facilities planning and management of capital construction and major controlled maintenance projects. Includes ensuring effective, strategic and thoughtful: long-term planning processes; requests for state capital construction and controlled maintenance funds; architect, engineer and other vendor management; construction oversight and compliance with state buildings requirements; and oversight of all college leases.
  • Oversees the college-wide campus security and preparedness department, which provides security services and emergency preparedness planning for all campuses and sites. Ensures that the college has effective emergency plans in place, develops and executes emergency training regularly, and has appropriate systems in place to prevent, mitigate and respond to emer
  • Provides guidance and assistance to all college departments on general business operations and issues.
  • Ensures the college has effective internal controls, including controls on cash handling, inventory, expenditure approvals and all related activities.
  • As an active participant on the President’s cabinet and advisor to the President, helps shape college strategy and policies.
  • Serves as chief liaison to the Colorado Community College system on all business, construction, and security matters, including accounting, other fiscal compliance issues, IT issues, and related matters.
  • Engages actively in system wide policy and practice discussions, effectively representing college interests while also working to develop plans that serve the system as a whole.

Required Skills


  • Master’s degree in public administration, business administration, information technology management or other related field, from a regionally accredited college/university.

Required Experience


  • Ten years of increasingly responsible professional business administration related experience. Demonstrated knowledge of:
    1. Financial management and accounting principles;
    2. Budget development, monitoring, and planning;
    3. Supervision and management, including team building and employee development;
    4. Key laws and rules governing finance and administration.
  • Commitment to the college’s philosophy and goals to develop equitable, inclusive learning environments.
  • Commitment to the college’s vision of providing an outstanding education to our students through high quality instruction and student support and operational excellence.
  • Strong leadership skills, excellent business judgment and acumen, and a collaborative and innovative approach to opportunities and problems. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments of the college, faculty, staff, students, and external entities, including the community. Ability to analyze complex organizations and systems and to implement change.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. 
  • Knowledge/ability to operate standard office equipment and current desktop computer software programs.


  • Experience overseeing or managing construction projects and facilities maintenance.
  • Experience overseeing campus police or security.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Understanding of critical issues in information technology management.
