The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is accepting applicants for a Mechanic II in our Facilities & Engineering Department. Will be responsible for maintaining assigned service vehicle parts and other state equipment inventory daily. Maintains gas and diesel fuel inventory and fuel log usage records daily; as well as records in the use of parts according to state guidelines. Keep equipment and parts cleaned and organized; keep equipment in good operating condition. Will be required to perform duties in compliance with weather, safety, and environmental policies and procedures using protection equipment as required.
Performs vehicle and or golf cart repair/maintenance and clean/fuel vehicles assigned to the Motor Pool including but not limited to: oil filter changes; transmission fluid/filter changes; replacing brakes; repairing/replacing, mounting and balancing tires; replacing wiper blades and lights; repairing minor body damage; obtaining repair/maintenance authorizations of state owned vehicles using the State Commercial Vendor Repair Program. Inspect and perform preventive maintenance on vehicles following the prescribed schedule and departmental policies, rules, and regulations. Report major preventive maintenance problems to shop head. Evaluate, diagnose, and repair routine maintenance failure problems. Respond to service calls, determine severity of problem and make repairs or report to shop head for additional assistance. Inspect, diagnose, overhaul, and repair vehicle components restoring component parts to OEM requirements.
Must have a GED certificate or high school diploma AND any combination of training, experience, and/or education equivalent to two(2) years of diversified vehicle repair and maintenance experience.
Must be able to work inside/outside exposed to heat, cold and inclement weather. Work in close quarters around and underneath vehicles for repair. Some overtime, weekend, and holiday work will be required. Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver's license or be able to obtain on for employment. Must have basic knowledge of vehicle hand tools. Must bring own vehicle basic mechanic hand tools to the job and be able to operate vehicle electronic test equipment. Must be able to operate a personal computer. Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook software is preferred. Must have a basic understanding of procedures to assure health and safety standards and precautions are in compliance with State DHEC and Federal OSHA requirements.
