Job Summary/Basic Function:
Reporting to the Head of Special Collections, the Supervisory Archivist will manage onsite and remote storage of archival materials and oversee operations in two separate processing spaces. The position will record incoming accessions, oversee processing, and direct the description of archival materials. In addition, the Supervisory Archivist will oversee the use of collection management software for creation of finding aids and create training tools for use of collections management software as needed. The position directs librarians, staff, and student assistants in the areas of preservation, collection management and processing of both analog and born digital materials. The Supervisory Archivist will provide leadership of the UNT Library's Finding Aid Workgroup, a group composed of librarians/archivists across multiple departments, to coordinate descriptive activity across departments whenever possible. The position works collaboratively with the department head to set priorities, create plans for work, document processes and meet project deadlines. The Supervisory Archivist will also work closely and collaboratively with others in the department to align the work of the Processing Unit with the work of Public Services, Outreach, Preservation, Digitization and Metadata within Special Collections.

* Manages the processing of archival collections, including appraisal, accessioning, preparation of processing plans, arrangement and description, and preservation of materials in all formats and collecting areas
* Supervise operational workspaces in multiple locations to facilitate projects of differing size, scope and complexity
* Lead the UNT Library's Finding Aid Workgroup
* Maintain donor files, gift agreements and other types of acquisition records
* Assists in collection development and acquisitions in conjunction with department head.
* Ensures compliance with policies and procedures for the acquisition, security, arrangement, description, preservation of and access to the collections
* Creates documentation for departmental processes and procedures
* Implements uniform arrangement and description standards and ensures that materials are efficiently and effectively processed
* Ensures access to collections through inventories, finding aids, catalog records, and other descriptive means
* Encodes finding aids using Encoded Archival Description (EAD) for contribution to the Texas Archival Resources Online (TARO)
* Works to enhance access to collections through the Digital Library and the Portal to Texas History
* Provides specialized reference assistance to scholars and university community
* Assists the department head in grant proposals and donor relations
* Supervises the department in the absence of the department head

Minimum Qualifications:
* Master's degree from an accredited graduate library program with archives coursework, or equivalent education and experience
* At least three years of experience working in an archives or special collections department
* At least one year of experience managing projects and supervising staff
* Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
* The ability to lift up to 30 pounds and utilize ladders and step stools

Preferred Qualifications:
* Strong experience in archival processing and the application of basic processing strategies for large 20th century collections
* Demonstrated success in bringing projects to completion
* Clear understanding of the application of technology to manuscripts and rare books. The candidate should have experience with some or all of the following: digitization, metadata creation, electronic finding aids, creating content for websites, social media or digital exhibits
* Proficiency with data content and structure standards relevant to the archival control of collection materials (EAD, EAC, MARC, LCSH)
* Familiarity with basic preservation and conservation standards for archival and rare books collections
* Familiarity with copyright and privacy issues relevant to archives
* Demonstrated personal professional development through scholarly research and publication, presentations, and participation in national professional associations and activities appropriate to the level of appointment
* Commitment to diversity in collection development, access, outreach and other department activities
* Certification from the Academy of Certified Archivists
* Experience using Archon or Archivists Toolkit

Position Information
Oversees the office of assessment and evaluation (OAE) quality improvement (QI) consultation in conjunction with the Associate Dean and the Director-OAE. Manages data processing, including generating and cataloging OAE reports. Please be advised that the full annualized salary range for this position is $48,800 to $96,200; however due to budgetary reasons, the pay for this position will not exceed the mid-point of the pay scale.

Solid ability to present information in a clear concise manner both in writing and verbally.
Solid active listening, critical thinking, good interpersonal skills and ability to multi-task.
Requires basic knowledge in data collection and analysis techniques; knowledge of common organization-specific computer application programs.
Able to provide good judgment, decision-making, and problem solving.
Understanding of organizational rules and regulations.
Familiar with Excel, Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), Tableau, and/or other related software.
