Posting Information: The School of Health Sciences invites applications for a nine-month, fixed term or tenure-track assistant or associate professor position beginning August 2018. Responsibilities include teaching courses in the Emergency Medical Care Program; advising and mentoring students in collaboration with the Advising Center; providing service to the university, profession, and community; engaging in scholarly activities; and providing vision and leadership for the students, faculty, and all stakeholders in the Emergency Medical Care Program. Opportunities for administrative responsibilities are negotiable. Salary and rank are commensurate with academic qualifications and experience. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Preferred start date is August 15th. The Emergency Medical Care Program is a 128-credit hour degree with residential and online options for students, with concentration options in health management and science (pre-med). The EMC Program has a rich history of quality instruction in emergency medicine. The Program is one of approximately twenty institutions in the nation offering the Bachelor of Science (BS) degree for pre-hospital providers. The School of Health Sciences offers undergraduate programs in Athletic Training, Emergency Medical Care, Environmental Health, Integrated Health Sciences, Nutrition & Dietetics, and Recreational Therapy. The Master of Health Sciences graduate program offers concentrations in Emergency Medical Care, Health Education, and Health Management. Additional programs within the College of Health and Human Sciences include Communication Sciences and Disorders, Nursing, Physical Therapy and Social Work. A collaborative environment conducive to interdisciplinary teaching, scholarship and service exists within the School and College of Health and Human Sciences. Western Carolina University is a regional comprehensive university consisting of over 10,000 students with its main campus located in Cullowhee, NC. The Emergency Medical Care Program is housed in the new 160,000 square foot, state-of-the-art Health and Human Sciences Building. The College of Health and Human Sciences' faculty are committed to creating and implementing a program of inter-professional experiences for students enrolled in the health professions, and opportunities for inter-professional research and collaboration is extensive. In addition, the western North Carolina rural, aging and medically underserved location provides numerous and rich opportunities for research and grant acquisition.

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements: * Doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution (Tenure Track) * Masters Degree (Fixed Term) * North Carolina Office of EMS Instructor * Current certification in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS * Current state license/certification as a paramedic * Three years of successful teaching experience in emergency medical care * Three years of clinical experience as an EMT or Paramedic * Evidence of scholarly activity and research agenda * Evidence of student engagement in scholarship * Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications: * Administrative or leadership position at a college or university, preferably in a health science setting * Curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation * Administrative experience leading a collaborative, multi-discipline academic program * In addition to the doctoral degree, degrees in other health fields are favorable
