UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT URBANA CHAMPAIGN

VETERINARY DIAGNOSTIC LABORATORY

Full-time, 100% (12 month basis) Research Assistant Professor

The University of Illinois Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory is seeking to hire a Research Assistant Professor with expertise in diagnostic and molecular virology and microbiology to facilitate design, validation, and testing of PCR, RT-PCR and qPCR assays as well as next generation sequencing and CHIP technology. Specimens submitted represent companion animals, livestock and poultry as well as zoo and exotic animals with testing performed for veterinary clients from the College of Veterinary Medicine Veterinary Teaching Hospital as well as private practice and USDA, NAHLN, FDA and NPIP. The laboratory is an AAVLD accredited lab with rigorous quality assurance practices and carefully controlled standard operating procedures. The successful candidate would assist with oversite of molecular assays, work with Virology and Molecular Section Heads, a research scientist, and 5 academic professional staff members to respond to routine testing needs as well as outbreaks and emerging diseases. A PhD in Microbiology and several years of clinical or diagnostic experience are required. The position is a full-time, 12 month, annual renewable appointment.

SALARY: Commensurate with experience.
