Assistant Professor - Health Geography

The Department of Geography at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment in Health Geography at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2019.
The successful candidate must have earned a Ph.D. in Geography and have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and research.
The Department seeks to hire a candidate with a research and teaching program focused in Health Geography with expertise in the field of migration and population health with a particular focus on health and integration in Canada among sub-Saharan African immigrants, as well as health in sub-Saharan Africa. Expertise in quantitative and qualitative methods is also required. The candidate is expected to contribute to the expansion of the department's teaching and research interests in health geography and sub-Saharan Africa.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach a combination of the department's core Human Geography courses, including health and social geography, and a regionally focused course on sub-Saharan Africa.
Candidates are expected to combine excellence in teaching with a demonstrated capacity to build a successful, independent externally funded research program that will expand and complement our current research strengths. Evidence of, or excellence in, teaching will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, strong letters of reference, and the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application. Evidence of excellence in research is demonstrated by publications in top-ranked and field-relevant academic journals, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements by referees of high standing.
The appointment will be at UTM, which has a strong interdisciplinary commitment to teaching and research, a multicultural student body of 14,000 students, and a modern, spacious campus, where the appointee will be expected to develop an externally funded research program. The successful candidate will also hold a graduate faculty appointment in the tri-campus Department of Geography and Planning at the University of Toronto, a department with strengths and interdisciplinary linkages in physical and human geography and the environment. Active participation in the UTM Geography and Environment undergraduate programs, as well as in the graduate program of the Department of Geography and Planning is expected.
