I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The Office of Enrollment Management and Retention includes the offices of undergraduate admission, graduate enrollment, graduate scholarships, student financial assistance, registrar functions, strategic enrollment initiatives including international enrollment, summer programs, and non-degree student support, student retention, and enrollment operations. The division works to elevate the university's enrollment planning to bring in an ever more passionate, academically talented and diverse student body.

Colonial Student Services is a customer service organization for student financial and registration services, bringing together the offices of Student Financial Assistance, Student Accounts, and Registrar in a friendly, centralized, service-culture setting. This team is cross-trained to ensure seamless support to students.

The Student Services Specialist assists students and families with navigating GW's administrative processes related to financial aid, billing and registration. This position informs students and families of important dates and deadlines, requirements for financial aid, and payment options including the monthly payment plan. The Specialist explains transactions on the bill and helps students to use our online self-service resources. This position partners with staff members in Student Financial Assistance, Student Accounts, Registrar, and GWorld to resolve student issues at the first point of contact when possible. This position requires the execution of extraordinary customer service through accurate communication, analytical research, and conflict resolution. Candidate must possess the ability to work individually and in a team setting, multi task and effectively prioritize responsibilities and retain a professional and engaging demeanor.

Performs other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

General knowledge of billing, registration, and financial aid processes.

Possess a friendly, professional personality, with strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask.

Team player with excellent leadership, customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.

Flexible and available to work varied shifts (evenings and weekends) during peak periods.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and database systems. Ability to learn to use customer tracking software, imaging software, and Banner mainframe database systems to complete daily responsibilities.

Previous experience with counseling on financial aid issues, registration transactions, and/or reviewing student accounts is preferred.
