The University of Kentucky is currently seeking a transformative leader to serve as the Director of the Martin Luther King Center. This position is one of the most significant and visible inclusive excellence leaders at the University of Kentucky. Serving the entire University, this position is responsible for strategic oversight of many of the most integral institutional initiatives focused on diversity, inclusion, and belonging that impact thousands of students, faculty, staff, and other community members each year. The director plays a key role in the recruitment, retention, and graduation of our diverse student populations and collaborates with faculty and staff to support a welcoming and sustaining campus climate. Working from the most state-of-the-art inclusion-focused center in the country, the director must regularly interface with and contribute to national social justice dialogues. The director must possess the vision and temperament to collaborate effectively and efficiently with other institutional diversity directors and key stakeholders across the campus and commonwealth, fostering new and expanded intercultural and cross-cultural dialogues.

The position will direct the development and execution of the overall mission and vision of the MLK Center, managing department budgets and program expenses for the unit, as well as overseeing daily operations and facility needs. This position supervises a full-time professional team of three with a sizable budget and has flexibility to incorporate scholarship and teaching related to the chosen candidate's discipline. This position also advises academic, administrative, and student communities on best practices related to diversity, inclusion, belonging, and engagement. In addition, the Director regularly reviews university policies and recommends updates that expand welcoming environments.

Preferred Education/Experience

A Doctorate degree is preferred in social justice, humanities, higher education, or related field of study, as well as direct experience in a leadership role of a multicultural student center. Preferred applicants will possess skills that include the ability to connect on national dialogues about inclusive excellence, and an understanding of the sociopolitical landscape impacting higher education access and success.

Driver's license preferred.
