Functional Title Research Scientist
Position Type Research
The primary purpose of the UNCG Center for Translational Biomedical Research is to conduct basic and translational research in human diseases, with focuses on biomarkers for early diagnosis of disease, understanding of disease pathogenesis and development of novel interventions for disease prevention and treatment.
The position will perform grant-funded research projects, including experimental design, sample preparation, data acquisition, data analysis and interpretation, research presentation at national/international meetings, manuscript preparation, and grant proposal preparation. The position will be responsible for training graduate students in routine laboratory techniques, and new members in the Center using chromatography and mass spectrometry systems, and data analysis tools. The research area is type 1 diabetes and diabetic complications.
The minimum qualifications for this position include a PhD degree in the field of chemistry, life sciences or biomedicine. A minimal 2 years of post degree research experience in LC-MS and/or GC-MS based metabolomics and lipidomics of mamillian cell, tissue and biofluid is required.
The position requires professional skills in research design, data acquisition, data analysis, biological interperation of results, manuscript preparation and presentation of research findings.
The position requries expert knowlege in gloabal and targeted metabolomics and lipidomics work flow, extensive hands-on experience in metabolomic/lipidomic sample preparation, operation of Thermo QExactive series and TSQ Quantiva or similar mass spectrometers and related LC systems from Thermo, data analysis tools such as MetaboliteDetector, LipidSearch, Skyline, TraceFinder, Progeneis QI and MetaboAnalyst.
The candidate for this position must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work with others in a collegial team environment. In addition, previous experience with cell culture, operation of Leco GC-TOF, biomarker studies of type 1 diabetes, knowledge of R statistical language and strong records in scientific publications are preferred.
