Graduate Assistant (Staff), College Coaching Corps
[email protected], which cultivates and creates community and university initiatives, oversees the College Coaching Corps in partnership with MCAN (Michigan College Access Network), Washtenaw Futures (the Local College Access Network) the Milan Area Schools, Ypsilanti Community Schools and the Lincoln Consolidated Schools.
This College Coaching Corps program hosts one half-time graduate assistantship to serve as an internship and career pathway coach at Ypsilanti Community High School located in Washtenaw County.
The Coach will commit to a term of service beginning September 2018 through the end of June 2019. This appointment includes a mandatory training with Washtenaw Futures and YCS in August 2018. Additional on-campus trainings and meetings throughout the year are required.
Overall Goal of the Internship/Career Pathway Coach : The goal is to ultimately increase high school student persistence and retention through the engagement of internships/apprenticeships and work experience relevant to academic coursework and professional interest.Additionally, the coach work closely with YCS @ Work (http://www.ycschools.us/about-us/district-informational-pages/ycs--work/) and the YCS Business teacher in building community and business partnerships in order to cultivate employment opportunities, academic pathways, and stackable creditionals for YCS students.
The Internship & Career Pathway coach position will require an individual capable and interest in research from design through literature review, data collection, analysis, writing, and preparation/presentation of findings. Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Assist YCS staff in forming relationships with the local automotive industry as potential employers for collision and auto technology students at the annual Career Summit event.
Assist YCS staff with an analysis of the YCS @ Work internship program on-boarding and post-internship activities.
Assist YCS staff with development of a school spirit store.
Oversee the development/design in stackable cred
Become familiar on stackable credentials and certifications relevant to YCS initiatives, student interest and state data.
Develop (or identify) evaluation tools on student interest in concert with state /local data on employment,
Engage in county or regional conversations or teams regarding the Marshall Plan.Qualifications
Enrollment in an EMU master's degree program in business, business education, counseling (school or college), Social Work, education or higher education student affairs (HESA) or significant background and concentration in high school mentoring, academic tutoring and/or college access.
Proven ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff including those from diverse backgrounds
Previous experience demonstrating strong leadership abilities, influencing others in a positive manner while achieving goals, and effectively communicating ideas and generating support for ideas
Ability to work independently and analytically, exercise discretion and good judgment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; proficient computer skills
Ability to manage multiple projects; strong planning and organizational skills
Demonstrate program development and management experience
Willingness to handle complex and detail-oriented workload
Team-oriented towards program design, implementation, and evaluation
High energy, creativity, ability to assume responsibility; take initiative and develop new programs
Successfully pass background screening as required by the assigned school districtAbility to work up to 10 hours per week is required.
GPA of 3.0 or higher is required.
Admission and enrollment in a graduate program is required.
Maintenance of a 67% course completion is required.
Enrollment in at least 6 credits for Fall and Winter semesters is required. Supplemental Information
