Posting Summary:
The University of Virginia Health System Development is hiring a Proposal Writer and Communications Strategist. The Health System Development (HSD) communications team raises awareness and support for Health System fundraising priorities through publications, electronic communications, websites, events, and other vehicles. Working with gift officers and development leadership, the team develops and manages key messages across fundraising platforms and throughout the spectrum of communications vehicles, including print, electronic, display, and events.

The successful candidate is a creative and experienced professional who helps achieve HSD's fundraising goals by conceptualizing, writing, and editing content that excites readers and solicits philanthropic support for UVA Health System. They will take the lead in creating successful principal gift-level proposals, working in partnership with teams across HSD and with faculty and staff at UVA Health System to make science writing understandable and exciting for a lay audience. They will also develop persuasive fundraising proposal templates for use by the office.

The successful candidate will also serve as managing editor of HSD's two philanthropy newsletters, PULSE and Investing in Hope. Working closely with other members of HSD's Communications team, they will write and edit articles, manage freelance writers and photographers, and oversee printing. In addition, they will work closely with the Director of Communications on campaign messaging and case development, and will serve as a strategic resource for defined teams across the office.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated outstanding written communications skills in order to write, edit, and proof different forms of copy. They will have the ability to lead and execute a broad range of communications functions and strategically plan communications activities. The ideal candidate will have the ability to synthesize information, provide advice, and address needs independently. Proven knowledge of print and web publications, media relations, and market research. Preference will be given to the candidate who has experience writing solicitations and fundraising proposals.
