Associate / Full Professor - Head, Division of Breast Imaging
Requisition Title: Associate / Full Professor - Head, Division of Breast Imaging - 1800994
The Department of Medical Imaging at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is recruiting a full-time Breast radiologist and Head of the Breast Imaging Division. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2018 or earlier.
Candidates must hold an MD degree or equivalent, must have had formal fellowship training in Breast Imaging, and be licensed or eligible for licensure in the province of Ontario. The ideal candidate should have had greater than 3 years prior clinical experience as a practicing sub-specialty Breast Imaging radiologist covering all aspects of breast imaging including mammography, tomosynthesis, breast ultrasound, breast MRI, and breast procedures. The successful candidate should be eligible for an academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto, with interests and proven track record of academic research and publications in the field of Breast Imaging. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience.
Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC) is a fully affiliated hospital of the University of Toronto with over 1,212 beds. SHSC houses The Odette Cancer Centre, one of the largest comprehensive cancer programs in the country. The radiology practice is composed of more than 40 subspecialty radiologists. The Louise Temerty Breast Cancer Centre provides collaborative multidisciplinary breast care with imaging, clinical care and research in one location. We are an accredited Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) and OBSP High Risk screening centre with a high volume of MRI and MRI guided biopsies. Our Rapid Diagnostic Unit program provides women with a highly suspicious clinical or imaging finding with a next working day pathology diagnosis.
Our department has a significant academic commitment. Educational opportunities abound at the undergraduate, postgraduate and fellowship levels at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine. There is an additional focus on inter-professional and inter-disciplinary teaching. It is expected that the Breast Division Head will help build the environment for independent research activity in the field of Breast Imaging, in part by leveraging the presence of an adjacent, internationally renowned group of medical imaging scientists in the Sunnybrook Research Institute (SRI). This group has expertise that spans the entire scope of breast imaging (digital x-ray, ultrasound, MRI, image processing and analysis, biomarkers, path. correlation, etc.), unparalleled research infrastructure and a collaboration network with the international imaging research community.
Currently Sunnybrook is the largest accruing site and a key leader in the ECOG-ACRIN 1151 randomized trial of breast tomosynthesis, for which Dr. Martin Yaffe, an SRI scientist, is the Study physicist and Canadian study chair. Radiologists and staff at Sunnybrook Breast Imaging have played a leading role in the preliminary clinical experience for TMIST which has now opened in the United States with funding from the National Cancer Institute. There are excellent opportunities for the Division Head to develop other new research collaborations in breast imaging. Dr. Anne Martel, another SRI scientist has created a research program in machine/deep learning with applications in breast cancer. Protected academic and administrative time will be provided to actively participate in and grow these academic endeavors.
Qualified candidates should submit a letter of interest, three letters of reference and curriculum vitae by e-mail to:
Dr. Sean Symons, Interim Radiologist-in-Chief, Department of Medical Imaging
c/o Samah Khan, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre MG-161, 2075 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, Ontario Canada M4N 3M5 Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
