General Summary of Position:

This being a promotional opportunity, only current UML Employees within the same Bargaining unit are eligible to apply for this position.

The Assistant Director assists in the management and coordination of clinical services and provides administration and supervision of Counseling Services in the Director's absence. Provides mental health services for diverse student population and consultation/outreach to the university community; trains and supervises graduate trainees. The Assistant Director will also work collaboratively as a member of the Wellness Center team to support students at UMass Lowell.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):
  • Master's or Doctoral degree in counseling, psychology, clinical social work or a closely related field with 6-8 years post-advanced degree clinical experience preferably in a college or university counseling center
  • Experience in an administrative or supervisory role in a clinical setting
  • Experience and knowledge of individual and group counseling and psychotherapy practices, knowledge of developmental psychological theory, understanding of student development and outreach, and cultural competence appropriate for a diverse student population
  • Demonstrated experience in working with developmental issues common to the 18-25 year old college student population
  • Ability to perform psychological assessment; provide crisis intervention services; provide effective consultation and clinical supervision; maintain appropriate records via an EHR and adhere to professional confidentiality standards
  • Current professional MA license (psychologist, mental health counselor, social worker, etc.) or licensed in another state and eligible to be licensed in MA within first year of employment
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2-3 years of practice within a college or university setting or with college aged students in an alternative setting
