The Director of Event Management functions as a strategic business leader for all aspects of university events. The Director will manage a team and oversee the strategic execution of events which includes budget management, event logistics, effectively communicating with key stakeholders, planning and managing events, staff, vendor relationships, and collaborating effectively with all departments to present the university in the best possible light at all times. This position requires a mix of strategy and execution and a deep passion for the power of events to bring people together.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Skilled in all aspects of event planning / management, including thorough understanding of effective design, organization and production of quality events; Exceptionally strong organizational and time management skills; detail oriented; Demonstrated ability to set priorities that take into consideration job responsibilities, deadlines, competing requirements and complexity; Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to build strong collaborative relationships; Must have the ability to work independently and to set priorities; but also advocates team concepts and functions as a team leader; Skilled in using technology effectively; Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills; Applies analytical skills and principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete situations where limited standardization exists; Knowledge of contract formation, event invoicing and budgeting reconciliations; Skilled in Microsoft office suite, Adobe Acrobat, copier, fax, and personal computer use. Ability to learn SMART classroom technology, EMS scheduling software, Room Viewer and calendar creator software.
Bachelor's degree required.
8 years of directly related experience with increasing responsibility and the ability to demonstrate impact and proven results.
Position requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time. Position requires the ability to move about the campus. Position requires the ability to talk and to hear instruction. Position requires manual dexterity and the ability to use fingers, hands, and arms to feel, handle, and reach. Position requires stooping, crouching and bending. Position requires the ability to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds. Position requires the ability to provide regular onsite management of events including evenings and weekends.
