Position Summary:

Saint Augustine’s University (SAU) seeks individuals who can provide a broad range of academic, personal, and career counseling services to facilitate the development of students entering and progressing through the University’s diverse and sundry programs.  The ideal persons will provide comprehensive guidance in course selection, educational interests, and academic goals.  Will provide direction with counseling and other initiatives as they relate to student warnings, probations, and suspension.  Individuals should have excellent presentation skills, communicate effectively; oral and written, and have previous experience working with students in a counseling or advisory role. 


  • Assist students with registration and provide guidance in course selection keeping in line with the student’s interests, values and abilities.
  • Provide academic advising and counseling to assists students in setting and achieving academic goals.
  • Assess student needs and refer students to appropriate resources and personnel as necessary.
  • Discuss options to satisfy degree requirements, program admission, etc. and advise students of available support programs and services.
  • Conduct or organize presentations/counseling sessions/workshops on topics that promote and maximize personal development and student success in collaboration with faculty and other administrators.
  • May instruct one section of FYE 101 and FYE 102.
  • Coordinate counseling and other initiatives for students on warning, probation, and suspension, under the director of supervisor.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community agencies and resources to assist in program development, recruitment and retention.
  • Participate in college-wide and service area activities and events that promote the growth of the University.
  • Maintain student records of all advising and coaching activities and submit periodic activity reports to the Director of Academic Advising or Office of the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs, as requested.
  • Preforms other job-related duties as assigned in support of the University’s goals and core values..


Three to five year’s successful experience serving as an advisor or counselor in an educational or social environment for age related young people. Master’s degree in counseling, education, or related disciplines preferred. Bachelor’s degree is required; exceptional computer skills to include MS office 365. 

Physical Requirements:

Position may require lifting, walking, squatting, and able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
