Director of Communications

Job Summary:
The Director of Communications directs and implements media relations, social media, public relations and internal and external communication initiatives that support the institutional brand and achieve strategic goals of the university and division. 

Essential Functions:
1. Develop and implement annual communications plan that uses effective strategies and measures outcomes
2. Serve as editor of the university magazine that has a circulation of more than 18,000
3. Research and write copy for multiple publications including presidential speeches, op-eds and articles
4. Work collaboratively with campus community to develop process for capturing and communicating success stories among internal and external audiences
5. Coordinate photo shoots for key university events including commencement, convocation and other special events 
6. Hire, supervise and assign work for student internship positions
7. Perform other duties as assigned
8. Promote Franciscan ideals and adherence to the Mission of the University
1. Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field
2. 3-5 years of experience leading communications and public relations initiatives
3. Exceptional writing, interviewing and presentation skills
4. Demonstrated experience working with media in pitching and placement of stories
5. Highly creative with a proactive approach to problem solving
6. Ability to thrive in fast-paced environment with high volume of requests and quick turnarounds
7. Strong organizational and time management skills with a proven record of meeting deadlines
8. Strong interpersonal skills; a team player with strong work ethic
