Associate Provost for Academic Affairs
The New Jersey City University (NJCU) invites applications for the position of Associate Provost for Academic Affairs. The Associate Provost for Academic Affairs (APAA) assists the Provost in administration and leadership of schools and the units in Academic Affairs including working with the Provost Council and Provost on the implementation of the University’s Strategic Plan. Under the direction of the Provost, the APAA provides oversight for faculty/staff development, orientation and engagement, and administration-faculty governance initiatives, which includes working with the University Senate. The APAA facilitates program and degree approval processes, internally and externally, and works with the Provost and Office of the President to accomplish these responsibilities. The APAA initiates and implements academic policies and procedures and assists deans and other leaders in the maintenance and upgrade of the following: program review, grant writing, curriculum development, course assessment, accreditation and faculty-student engagement. The APAA also manages institutional activities related to the grants awarded to enhance faculty effectiveness and institutional assessment. The APAA under the Provost direction will assist by chairing, convening and/or serving on committees, task forces, councils, etc. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Provost and Senior Vice President.
- The successful candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:
- A terminal or doctoral degree from an accredited university;
- At least three years of successful experience in academic leadership (which may include serving as a department chair);
- A record of teaching, creative/scholarly activity, and service appropriate for appointment as an associate professor or professor at the University (preferred);
- Demonstrated experience in planning, organizing, and implementing university-wide initiatives/projects in academic affairs;
- A successful research agenda including publications in recognized journals and successful grant applications;
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, program review, new program development, assessment of student learning and accreditation;
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully and congenially with a senate and faculty constituencies;
- Demonstrated ability to effect the academic success of socioeconomic, culturally, and linguistically diverse first-generation college students;
- Ability to direct and promote faculty and staff development initiatives;
- Ability to manage and implement academic initiatives and programs;
- Ability to communicate effectively and make data-informed decisions in a manner consistent with the principle of transparency;
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with the Provost and other senior institutional leaders.
