Montgomery College, Administrative & Fiscal Services located in Rockville, MD, has need for a full-time Accounting Manager position #S03178, Grade 33. This is a non-bargaining, exempt position. The normal work schedule is Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm.

Job Summary: Under supervision and/or direction, manages the accounting and reporting of financial transactions, cash receipts and cash management, accounts payable and employee reimbursements for travel and other expenses, account reconciliations, invoice billing, intercompany reconciliations, and fiscal management of capital projects and fixed assets.

Contacts include regular interactions with college-wide constituencies such as managers, administrators, faculty, staff, vendors, technicians, consultants and outside agencies.

Job Description

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Directs staff performing accounting and reporting functions and duties.
  • Oversees the processing of journal entries, cash receipts and cash management, employee reimbursement and vendor payable, inter and intra company account reconciliations, non-student related invoice billing, and fiscal management of capital projects and fixed assets.
  • Manages and oversees the timely and accurate preparation and submittal of monthly, quarterly and year-end financial information including all compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains systems, procedures and policies, over the accounting systems and functions to ensure adherence to college guidelines.
  • Oversees the financial reporting and accounting systems to comply with college and regulatory requirements.
  • Assists in the preparation of audits including closing processes, journal entries, and supporting schedules for financial statements and footnote disclosure.
  • Modifies procedures and processing as deemed necessary due to regulatory changes or changes in the underlying financial system utilized by the college.


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree in accounting, finance or related field is required, or a combination of experience and education that meets the requirements of the position.
  • Minimum of three years supervising or leading teams or projects.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and GASB.
  • Strong supervisory/leadership skills. Strong skill in collaborating with faculty, staff, management, stakeholders while supporting the College.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in using office technology (software, computers, printers), including proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Analytical skills.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Accounting.
