Job description

Position Summary

The Health Care Assistant position is for a front office clerical position. Daily job duties include, but are not limited to: scheduling, registering and confirming Radiology appointments; obtaining accurate patient histories and scanning pertinent correspondence; obtaining and verifying insurance and authorizations; processing medical records requests.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired through a high school education; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a medical office setting or in a clinical setting performing routine health assessment tests and obtaining vital signs; experience with electronic health record systems and patient scheduling systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May require experience in the use word processing and database software, a specified medical course such as Nurse Health Aid and Phlebotomy, or Medical Billing and Medical Terminology experience. May require knowledge of electronic medical record and patient scheduling systems. May require certification as a medical assistant.

Desired Qualifications

Familiarity with medical terminology; experience in scheduling, screening, and confirming medical appointments using a computerized information system; experience scanning documents and handling a multi-line phone system.

Work Hours

Work hours are typically 8 am- 5 pm, but can vary as necessary to accommodate clinic hours.

Summary of Health Risks

TB risk or work within three feet of patients in a health care setting; wear a respirator.
