The University of Virginia's Office of the University Counsel is seeking a highly-motivated individual to serve as a Legal Assistant. The Office of the University Counsel represents the Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia in all legal and regulatory matters and provides advice and counsel to the Board of Visitors, the President, executive officers and other administrators, faculty, and staff in their official capacities. This position will perform a full range of legal office assistant duties to assist the University Counsel, Attorneys, and Office Manager.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of two years' experience in the following areas: answering the phone, directing inquiries to appropriate attorneys, word-processing, proofreading, copying, scanning, faxing, scheduling meetings, preparing litigation notebooks and exhibits, assisting with computer use, arranging for maintenance of office equipment, file management, document retention, archiving and shredding, review bonds, process reimbursements, organize and track outside counsel appointments and invoices, handle daily mail, deliver court pleadings, organize and maintain office library, arrange for court reporters, serve as notary public, and perform other duties as assigned. Preference will be given to a candidate with a Paralegal certificate.
The position requires the ability to keep pace in a busy law office within a complex organization. The ability to observe strict confidentiality of all matters within the office and possess expertise sufficient to address ordinary office computer or equipment problems. Candidates must have excellent organizational skills, be efficient and meticulous in performing job duties with attention to detail, and be proficient with Microsoft Office 365 and Adobe Acrobat.
