College of Agricultural, Consumer & Environmental Sciences: Assistant Professor - Agricultural Educ
Position: A Tenure-track Assistant Professor Faculty position is available in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The faculty position is provided on a 9-month (academic year) basis, with tenure residing in a department appropriate for the candidate's area of research in the College of ACES, and will reflect a 50% teaching and 50% research responsibilities. Qualifications: Earned Ph.D. in agricultural leadership; leadership education; agricultural education or communications; organization development; leadership; higher education; or any other closely related field. Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with undergraduate and graduate students as well as local, national/global groups required. Successful candidates must have a proven record of excellence in teaching and student centered/service learning in the context of leadership development, and scholarly research, publication and engagement.
Responsibilities: Build a strong international reputation through research, teaching and engagement in human capacity development related to agricultural leadership, education and communication that fits the College's proposal for a new interdisciplinary program (to be named as the Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication (ALEC) program.) The successful candidate will teach leadership theory and practice courses, including the introductory leadership course that each semester enrolls 160-180 students. Teaching responsibilities may include courses focused on leadership communications, leadership ethics, leading groups, and professional and employee development. Opportunities may also exist to organize study abroad programs. The candidate will conduct scholarly research in the broad area of leadership and/or student development in preparation for professional success, attract external competitive research funding, and supervise graduate and undergraduate student research. Additional responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, assisting with student recruitment, advising, coordinating programs, and serving on relevant committees.

About the Program: The position will be hired into the Agricultural Education program, but will factor heavily into a proposal for the Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication (ALEC) Program, which is the newest proposed program in the College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences combining the current Agricultural Education and Agricultural Communications programs. It also proposes to house the University's Minor in Leadership Studies, which currently enrolls over 300 undergraduate students throughout the University of Illinois. Enrollment in all areas has risen steadily and considerably over the past five years - a trend that is expected to continue.
