Assistant Director, Affinity Programs

The Advancement Division at Babson College is in the process of starting a comprehensive capital campaign and it's a great time to join our team of over sixty staff members.The Assistant Director is responsible for working closely with numerous constituencies to enhance Babson's relationship with its 40,000+ alumni through an integrated strategy that relies heavily on affinity-based engagement, including volunteer recruitment and management as well as cross-campus collaborations. Specifically responsible for working with both alumni and students to develop and execute affinity programs and keep channels of communication open between the College and volunteers; serving as the primary liaison between assigned affinity groups and on-campus resources; working to foster the success of Babson affinities by cultivating meaningful relationships between the College and alumni/student volunteers; working with volunteers to develop initiatives which will strengthen alumni connections to the College and its student body; connecting and working collaboratively with different College offices, faculty, staff, and student groups to bring alumni opportunities for engagement with current students; and collaborating with AFN colleagues to support special interest affinity events in regions globally.
• Manage multiple affinity groups, affinity engagement, and volunteers to develop and execute affinity programs aligned with the College's alumni affinity goals. Support, evaluate, and if appropriate, develop affinity groups that are College driven in mission. Serve as the staff liaison to BOLD (Beavers of the Last Decade)
• Work closely with campus departments, alumni, and students to develop and strengthen affinity groups and to connect and ensure collaboration between affinity groups and on-campus resources.
• Support a comprehensive student engagement program, which delivers quality and diverse programming for undergraduate and graduate students and alumni.
• Serve as the primary liaison for industry-specific and geography-based student forums, including Entrepreneurship Forum, Health Care and Life Science Industry Forum, Energy Expo, Latin American Forum and India Symposium. Curate lists of potential alumni speakers and facilitate introductions to student leaders, alumni, and Development colleagues to aid with speaker recruitment. Develop marketing plan to promote forums via alumni communication channels.
• Support the Affinity team in the coordination of all student-centered programs, events, outreach, and communications.
• Collaborate with the Sr. Associate Director to foster Athletics engagement through programs, events, outreach and initiatives.
• Collaborate with Advancement colleagues on affinity-based giving programs and on maintaining and updating affinity data.
• Support the Associate Director with the management of the College Advancement Ambassadors (CAAs).
• Serve as the staff liaison to Office of International Programs (OIP) as it relates to developing and implementing programs and initiatives in support of Off-Shore electives.
• Answer all alumni/student communications including requests and questions, manage and input data, contribute to data analysis, and track activities.
• Work with alumni volunteers on affinity group programs and initiatives. Oversee event logistics coordination with the Events Management Office.
• Create and grow a robust and active social media presence as appropriate to the student groups and corresponding alumni affinity groups.
• Coordinate and contribute to pre- and post-event communications and reporting.
• Provide volunteer training as needed.
• Assume additional responsibilities as required.Education Requirements:
Minimum Level of Education Required Bachelor's Degree
Position Knowledge/Skills & Abilities Requirements:
• At least 4-6 years of experience in a related field; experience in volunteer relationship management preferred.
• Ability to understand and implement the strategic initiatives of the College.
• Must have strong volunteer management skills.
• Must show global competency, genuine interest in cultural explorations and a willingness to engage in active learning that enhances professional development and competencies.
• Must have strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, and must be able to build relationships with a wide variety of individuals across many different cultures and levels.
• Must have strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) as well as ability to work with the College's website in terms of updating and development.
• Ability to work collaboratively with governance members, students, faculty, staff, and individuals from different cultures.
• Ability to work independently and juggle multiple priorities.
• Ability to facilitate introductions for Development Officers to new prospects, discovered through research or personal connections as well as to speak to fundraising priorities.
• Must have strong interest in volunteerism and ability to translate that to others.
• Envisions and proposes new methods to perform tasks that support ET&A; takes thoughtful risks; and accepts new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.
• Anticipates and embraces change; demonstrates willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions.
• Must have had a valid unrestricted U.S. Driver's License for one year, and maintain throughout employment an insurable (as determined by the College's insurer's criteria) or a satisfactory driving record; must successfully complete and pass the College's vehicle training program within the first 60 days of employment; annual or more frequent review of employee's driving record based on the College insurer's criteria; and safety training as required by management.
• Travel is required both domestically and internationally.
• Must be able to work some weekends and evenings.
Additional Required Skills and Abilities:
• Preference for those with multiple language proficiency and international travel experience.
