Educational and Experience Requirement
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or in a related field. One year of experience in a laboratory at a university, college or experience in a related area. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position
Performs under supervision, a wide variety of routine and technical tasks including maintaining and operating a laboratory for the Chemistry Department.
Primary Responsibilities
Interprets and applies routine but moderately complex directives requiring judgment and attention and care to tasks such as, but not necessarily limited to, supervising student personnel, scheduling, establishing procedures, maintaining inventory, ordering supplies, equipment maintenance and repair, sanitation, security, and compliance with university and governments procedures, standards, rules, and regulations. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Specifications
Must be familiar with common laboratory equipment, such as high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GCMS), Zetasizer, and Spectrometer. Must be familiar with the instruction and research curriculum. Must be able to follow oral and written instruction. May require frequent contact with students, staff, and researchers. Care and attention is required in the performance of duties to prevent injury to self or others. The work includes working with highly toxic chemicals and animals (mice and rats) under safety controls.
This is a grant funded position. Continuation of the position is contingent upon continued funding.
