We seek a dynamic, collaborative leader who has an established track record for high quality curricular development at the university level and who is interested in preparing genetic counselors for 21st Century careers. The successful candidate will have a unique and exciting mandate and will work with faculty to design, build and nurture the University's offerings to attain enhanced student achievement and external recognition. An appreciation for an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to learning is especially desired. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to use creative and innovative approaches to academic program development.
Bay Path University's School of Education, Human and Health Sciences houses the University's Genetic Counseling, Physician Assistant, Occupational Therapy, Clinical Mental Health and Programs in Education, Special Education and Applied Behavior Analysis and Healthcare Management. Through evidence-based practice and project-based learning, these programs prepare human science professionals for success in a rapidly changing global environment, with applied work, clinical rotations, practicums and fieldwork assignments.
The scholar selected for this position will join a collaborative and dedicated School who emphasize excellence in education at all levels. S/he will lead and participate in committees and activities that are essential to the program, such as admissions, research mentoring, community outreach and significant new initiatives for the purposes of cutting-edge preparation.
This position will undertake special projects at request of the Program Director.
This position is a half-time, non-tenure, faculty position. Reporting to the Program Director of the Genetic Counseling Program, this position is a member of the program's leadership team. This position will be located at the East Longmeadow campus.
Collaborating with the Program Director, Associate Program Director, and Medical Director, the Clinical Coordinator manages the clinical training aspects of the Genetic Counseling Program. The Clinical Coordinator must be knowledgeable and responsible for ensuring the students have a robust and diverse clinical training that meets and exceeds the current genetic counseling accreditation and certification standards and requirements. The Clinical Coordinator has primary responsibility for identifying new clinical training sites, ensuring required institutional affiliations are in place, overseeing student and supervisor documentation and evaluation of the clinical training relationship, and sustaining positive and open relationships with clinical sites and supervisors.
The Clinical Coordinator will have teaching responsibilities in this program and specific courses will be defined on the annual workload form. This person must be available to teach in all three semesters.
The Clinical Coordinator will be expected to participate in curriculum development and innovation; teach graduate courses including teaching courses using alternative delivery methods: online, hybrid, weekends; advise graduate students; participate actively in local, state, and national professional organizations; and contribute to the service mission of the University and the School.
The Clinical Coordinator will be expected to attend open houses, orientations, advisory boards, and other meetings as requested.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the range of activities listed below.
GENETIC COUNSELING CLINICAL COORDINATION
Responsibilities will vary within the calendar year.
- Serve as the primary liaison with clinical supervisors and clinical sites.
- Develop and maintain affiliation agreements with ongoing and one-time clinical placements as needed.
- Coordinate, monitor and evaluate student clinical/practicum experiences.
- Develop and maintain clinical documents for students and faculty in Canvas.
- Develop annual plans for assuring an appropriate variety and number of cases for each student, implementing modifications as needed.
- Conduct regular meetings with students to assess/discuss clinical progress (one face-to-face meeting/student in the first year; one face-to-face and/or online meeting/student in each of the 4 clinical semesters in the second year).
- Participate in student advising/counseling, especially related to clinical matters.
- Orient new clinical supervisors to their responsibilities.
- Plan and implement clinical supervisor training experiences.
- Plan and oversee training of clinical supervisors regarding supervision, student evaluation and student/supervisor relationships.
- Develop PowerPoint presentation regarding supervision for new supervisors.
- Provide online training for new supervisors.
- Regularly oversee and evaluate the effectiveness of each supervisor.
- Develop, implement and oversee clinical remediation plans for individual students as needed.
- Plan and conduct Clinical Orientation session with first years in the first fall semester.
- Plan and conduct Clinical Orientation session with second years at the end of the first spring semester, in preparation for summer clinical placement.
- Maintain and update as needed (at least annually) the clinical policies, forms, handbooks, learning objectives and other benchmarks for assessment of students' clinical progress.
- Collect and report clinical data as needed by the institution and ACGC.
- Prepare and maintain necessary clinical documents for program accreditation.
- Use feedback from students and supervisors, and collected data to identify any areas of clinical instruction that may be weak and propose solutions, such as bringing in speakers, developing tutorials, identifying resources, etc.
- Plan an annual clinical supervision workshop (approved for CEUs) based on current supervisor trends, and feedback from supervisors and students.

- Serve on program committees as needed, such as the Admissions Committee.
- With Program Director, Associate Program Director, faculty and instructional designer, assist in the curriculum development of other GC program courses.
- Attend trainings as required.
- Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned by the University.
- If you operate a University owned, leased or personal vehicle at any time while performing your duties you must follow all policies and procedures outlined in the Operations Manual. You must have a valid driver's license and must successfully pass the online safe Driving Course and driving record check at time of hire and annually thereafter. Additionally, you must report any driving offense, on or off company time, which causes a loss, suspension, or any other change in your license status. You must report this change within one business day of the offense. You can report this change to the Human Resource Department or your direct supervisor. Failure to do so can lead to disciplinary action, up to and including terminations.

- Masters in Genetic Counseling from ACGC accredited training program or equivalent.
- Board Certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling or American Board of Medical Genetics.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in clinical genetic counseling.
- Knowledge and experience in genetic counseling, teaching and clinical supervision.
- Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
- Skillful problem solving capabilities.
- Computer literacy.
- Online teaching preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to multi-task effectively.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Adept interpersonal skills and communication via phone and email.
- Valid driver's license.
