Trades Specialist I
Duties and Responsibilities Plumbing services: rebuild flush valves, replace wax and rubber seals, remove foreign objects and clear plugs from commodes, urinals and sinks in all restrooms. Repair or replace sink drains, traps, shut off valves, supply lines and faucets as needed in restrooms, kitchen areas, janitorial closets, and academic laboratories. Repair or replace bathroom fixtures as appropriate. Complete repairs to water fountains. Flush emergency eye wash stations regularly.Carpentry services: repair or replace counter top laminate in restrooms and kitchen areas; repair or replace restroom partitions. Complete and repair restroom floor and wall ceramic tile and replace ceiling tile. Replace and grout broken slate floor tile. Additional repairs include stairwell handrails, replace and install treads; install room numbers and name plates to wall, hang projector screens, mount and repair student and faculty lockers, hang fire extinguishers, assemble furniture, install sign posts and mount signs for parking lot directions, rules and laws, cut construction materials with hand and power tools and attach construction materials using hand and power tools. Electrical services: change outside lights, office, classroom, hall, library, elevator, restroom and fire emergency lights; reset circuit breakers; reset fire alarm; shut down and turn on main breakers on disconnects, switch boards and main breakers in breaker boxes during a power outage, run wires and cables through cable hiders; replace electrical cord plug ends for facility, maintenance and building equipment. Build and/or repair CATS network cables when needed. Monitor HVAC Systems (Johnson Controls) for optimal operation, trouble shooting and maintenancePainting: cut out, tape, mud, sand and paint replaced or patched drywall; prepare and paint all classrooms as directed; paint parking lot curbs, lines and handicap areas as directed; paint exterior sign posts, hand rails, poles and metal book return; stencil faculty/staff on curb area of each faculty /staff parking slot; paint parking lot lines and curbs as directed. Equipment maintenance: repair and service custodial, building maintenance, lawn and snow removal equipment; refrigerator, ice maker, general office machinery not under service agreement. General building maintenance service and repairs including assisting with general services: move and set-up furniture; assist in set-ups for special events; respond as necessary to assist and support special events.Monthly inspection of fire extinguishers and emergency lighting; make arrangements to have fire extinguishers recharged if failed inspection and make appointment to have annual fire extinguisher inspection retagged.Provide oversight and performance, if necessary, of custodial services.Assist with snow removal services; shovel snow and spread salt; operate gasoline powered snow blower, and related duties for the evening shift and for some day shift. Maintain landscaping and cleaning of parking lots and campus grounds; cut and trim grass using gas powered mower and gas powered weed trimmer; pull weeds; trim trees; cut hedges when necessary.Move video equipment or instructional equipment.First on call for fire and or trouble alarm.
Minimum Required Education Business, technical, or vocational school as might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond high school.
Required Licenses and/or Certifications Certified in applicable skilled trade.
Type and Amount of Experience Needed Over two years and up to three years of experience; however, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience is acceptable which provides an applicant the listed knowledge, skills, and abilities and the capability to perform the essential functions of the job.
