Job description

Duties and Responsibilities Providing service to both Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College, this position is responsible for the following:Maintain main campus grounds by cleaning, sweeping, vacuuming, raking, trimming, mowing, weeding, edging, aerating, dethatching, mulching, cultivating, digging, planting, watering and various other activities. Prepare ground and condition soil as needed for planting beds or turf establishment on new construction areas and renovation projects. Plant ornamental flowers, bushes and trees following specified instructions regarding requirements for enhanced survival. Oversee and provide guidance for a two to four man inmate labor crew. Follow procedures and designate work assignments to inmate labor assigned to crew and ensures work is completed in a timely fashion ensuring proper quality and quantity and ensuring proper safety procedures are followed while performing job duties. Operate a variety of light equipment and power tools related to grounds maintenance and landscape installation. On occasion, operate large equipment such as agricultural tractor or forklift. Haul and spread mulch, compost, topsoil, gravel, sand and asphalt. Remove ice and snow on roadways, parking lots, steps, sidewalks and commons areas. Plow, shovel and spread cinders and ice melt to properly remove hazards. Maintain and repair asphalt roads and parking lots, steps, sidewalks and all other exterior surfaces used for vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Assist with office relocations, special events and removal and disposal of vegetative waste, solid waste, litter and recyclable materials from all campus grounds and perform other duties as assigned. Assist with campus integrated pest management program.

Minimum Required Education High school diploma or GED.

Required Licenses and/or Certifications Certified in applicable skilled trade.

Type and Amount of Experience Needed Over one year and up to two years of experience; however, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience is acceptable which provides an applicant the listed knowledge, skills, and abilities and the capability to perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications Must have a valid WV driver's license.Must be able to obtain Pruntytown Correctional Center inmate crew supervisor's card. Should have experience driving agricultural tractor, forklift, and/or skid loader. Tree and shrubbery trimming experience is very beneficial.
