Laboratory Information Systems Coordinator

Primary Function of Organization Unit: The NC State Veterinary Hospital (VH), established in 1983, is one of the highest rated veterinary academic medical centers in the country, serving communities throughout North Carolina as well as many other states. The hospital staffs over twenty clinical services with board-certified specialists that are nationally and even internationally renowned, ensuring the VH is on the cutting edge of veterinary medicine. Patients benefit from the combined expertise of multiple specialists utilizing a team approach to patient health care. Each year, nearly 25,000 patients are treated in the VH. The VH provides compassionate care, state of the art specialty health care, and expert clinical instruction for 4th-year veterinary students from College of Veterinary Medicine, and ongoing investigation of innovative techniques and procedures to further advance the field of veterinary medicine.
Essential Job Duties: This position will interface the CVM diagnostic laboratory resources with the CVM IT and instrument OEM vendors to ensure lab equipment is properly interfaced to the VH network, communications with required infrastructure servers and systems is intact, and all necessary assay requests, billing, and reporting is transpiring as expected. This position is 30 hours per week ~
Department Required Skills: Previous experience and knowledge of laboratory information systems. Ability to work independently. Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Information Technology or a biological science. 3-5 years of medical technology or information system experience.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Experience as a medical technologist ~ ASCP certification ~ Relevant experience including: fundamental knowledge of HL7 instrument interface standards, fundamental knowledge of IT protocol stacks (TCP/IP), TCP/IP networking, and client-server application/database environments, and solid knowledge of various clinical & research laboratory technology vendors/platforms.
