Faculty Research Position - Open Rank
The Department of Otolaryngology is searching for a full-time basic science research faculty member to join its growing and collaborative department. The rank for this position will be determined based on the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate. Responsibilities include developing the basic and translational sciences programs, furthering collaborations within the department and school and heightening the profile of the department's research standing on a national basis. Faculty rank will be commensurate with experience.
The Department of Otolaryngology has a diverse and growing research enterprise, with over $2.8M of external grant support awarded last year. It ranks 16th among Departments of Otolaryngology in the country for annual NIH support, with over $1.8M of annual NIH funding, including a T32. Current research areas within the department include: chemosensory transduction and signaling in tongue and airway mucosa, otitis media, role of microbiome in airway disease, hair cell regeneration, vestibular afferent signaling, blast injury in hair cells, and signaling pathways in head and neck cancer. The ideal candidate would have research interest(s) that would interface with one or more of these areas and might include inflammation sciences as they relate to diseases, immunology and microbiology of the head and neck, or related fields.
Completion of a MD or PhD from an accredited institution of education
- Five years of relevant research experience
- Translational and basic science experience
- Proven track record of funding and publications
- Strong leadership skills to assist with growth of division
- Proven success with obtaining external grant funding
- Outstanding communication skills and ability to deliver presentations to the community and at national meetings
