Degree and Area of Specialization:
Bachelor's in Graphic Design, Marketing, Communications or related field is strongly preferred. Please refer to the minimum years of relevant work experience in the section below.

Minimum of two years' experience in Graphic Design, Marketing, Communications or related field required.

The Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) Laboratory Improvement Division (LID) provides a broad range of Quality Assurance (QA) and Proficiency Testing (PTR) services to approximately 3000 laboratories throughout the US. Over 150 different services are offered and scheduled on multiple ship dates throughout the year. After testing simulated patient samples, laboratory customers return data to us via online entry. When data evaluation is complete, reports are sent to the customers. Scores from PT challenges are also sent to national accreditation agencies which use PT data to monitor customer performance. Significant monetary penalties and/or cease testing orders may be issued to laboratories demonstrating poor performance on PT challenges.
The 1.0 FTE Outreach Specialist position provides external communication and outreach according to a department outreach plan. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Operations Supervisor. This position would work with management staff to plan and meet annual outreach objectives. The position duties include: Design, implement and monitoring of MailChimp email campaigns and Google AdWords. Design, implement and maintain department outreach materials such as the catalog, flyers, brochures, newsletters tutorials and email distribution lists. Assist with design and maintenance of division website. Assist with tradeshow preparation and follow up. Create materials for tradeshow display and trade journals. The position will include other duties as assigned related to outreach, including tradeshow journal content creation, educational content for website or newsletters and creating a uniform message across WSLH PT outreach materials. . Working with the WSLH Public Affairs Manager, the position may also provide support to broader WSLH outreach communications needs. Excellent communication and writing skills utilizing proper grammar are required. The position demands commitment to accuracy, detail and time management, along with an enthusiasm to create. Proficiency with MS office programs and knowledge/experience with design programs such as Adobe InDesign, use of digital outreach tools such as MailChimp, Google AdWords, SEO (Search Engine Optimization) preferred. Training (if necessary) will be provided for custom software [e.g. PT Phoenix and PT Central databases] used in the department.
The position requires 40 hours per week (1.0 FTE). Exact hours/days to be determined but will occur during normal business hours. Office is open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 to 4:30. The applicant must be able to safely lift 20 lbs.
Proficient with Microsoft Office.
Experience in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) or similar programs preferred.
Experience with WordPress or html preferred.
Experience in design, digital outreach, communications, content creation or related field preferred.
Knowledge or willingness to learn MailChimp, Google AdWords, Search Engine Optimization.
Experience with creative or educational campaigns preferred.
Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Highly accurate editing and proofreading skills.
Efficient use of time to complete tasks and meet deadlines. Effectively prioritizes tasks at hand to meet expectations.
Ability to work independently and as a key team member.
Collaborates effectively by contributing positively to the success of the Laboratory Improvement Division.(Proficiency Testing) and the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene.
