The Senior Manager, General Education (Course Faculty) is responsible for exemplary leadership and operational success and outcomes across General colleges. This includes the leadership of a high performing team of program leaders who are responsible for the leadership of personnel and operations for the courses across colleges. The Senior Manager is available and accountable to members of his or her team and is responsible for the performance of its members. The Senior Manager demonstrates WGU’s “student obsession” culture and leads his or her team, by example. The Senior Manager establishes clear performance expectations and delivers results, which are consistent with university goals and department responsibilities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Understands and is committed to WGU’s mission and strategic vision. Can communicate this commitment effectively and consistently, and by example.
  • Provides supervision, direction, and leadership for a team of program managers (direct reports), each of whom is responsible for the performance, training, and development of a team of course instructors.
  • Provides effective direction and leadership to a large faculty in a high growth, distributed/ telecommuting environment.
  • Collaborates with department leaders to ensure effective hiring, promotion, development, and retention employee strategies.
  • Ensure strategic plans are effectively implemented and executed to meet university objectives.
  • Takes ownerships of assigned initiatives and applies strong leadership skills to build a high-performing, cross-functional team environment.
  • Develops strategic and effective working relationships with key WGU stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership for effective change management initiatives.
  • Lead cooperative efforts among direct reports and departments to strengthen communication channels and processes.
  • Work closely with other departments to identify areas of opportunity to improve faculty and student outcomes
  • Develop creative solutions to solve department issues and contribute to innovative strategies.
  • Identify training opportunities for leaders and employees
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to develop objectives and performance measurements to ensure consistent, high-quality evaluation and goal setting for employees.

Required Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in related field from accredited higher education institution.
  • Experience leading faculty and staff in an educational setting.
  • Minimum of 4 years of leadership experience managing a variety of services within a complex environment.

Required Skills

  • Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet, e-mail and scheduling applications.
  • Extraordinary customer service and communication skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to present information clearly and concisely.
  • Exemplary presentation skills with the ability to translate quantitative and qualitative analyses into engaging, informative and persuasive communication in large and small group settings.

Special Position Requirements

  • Travel/Commute: available to travel to meetings as required.
