UCLA Extension, a global leader in professional and continuing higher education, seeks an innovative and entrepreneurial leader to serve as Director within the Department of Human Resources (Requisition 28298).

Reporting to the Dean of UCLA Extension, the Director of UCLA Extension Human Resources serves as the chief human resources officer, responsible for developing and executing a strategic plan to find, develop and retain exceptional team members focused on serving students first, fostering academic excellence and reimagining learning. The Director evaluates organizational effectiveness, staff engagement, organizational structure and overall talent, all in the context of advancing the goals, strategies and values of Extension. As part of Extension’s leadership team, the Director acts as a top advisor to the Dean and senior directors on human resources matters, and also serves as Extension’s primary liaison to campus and system-wide HR offices.

The Director is the employee and labor relations specialist for the organization and oversees compliance for four collective bargaining agreements. The Director coordinates classification and compensation activities, the academic personnel review process and performance evaluation process for staff employees. The Director leads the eight-person Extension HR Department, and also partners closely with the leadership of all other departments, helping them find creative, innovative and effective ways to inspire the very best work from the very best people.

Candidate must have minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible professional experience in providing and managing human resources in a large organization on a strategic level as well as demonstrated knowledge of human resources operations and practices, preferably in a public or private university and/or academic setting.  Excellent interpersonal/written/verbal communication skills and management experience also are essential.  Demonstrated evidence of experience working as a human resources professional in a collective bargaining environment and working knowledge of federal and state labor law, preferably in a higher education environment.  An undergraduate degree in a field related to human resources or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Advanced degree preferred.
