DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Westchester Educational Opportunity Center (Position based in Yonkers, NY)
RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the supervision of the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, the Employment Counselor is responsible for working with students and the larger community, through workshops, seminars, and presentations to improve employment and workforce preparedness. The incumbent works closely with other Career Services staff and other professionals to ensure coordination of efforts. S/he also performs administrative and support duties related to workforce development and employment programs. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to planning and developing workshops and training programs for existing vocational programs based on the program specific, and general job readiness needs of the industry to enhance workforce preparedness and employability of students after program completion. Additional related work and responsibilities as required.
QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and two years of experience in recruitment, placement, job development, or employment counseling are required. S/he must have successful experience working with adult, non-traditional learning populations. Candidates with good knowledge of the fundamentals and administrative procedures of educational programs, with the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty and members of the business community preferred. Strong presentation skills also preferred. Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus. (Note: experience in social casework is not considered qualifying experience.) *This is a Civil Service position. The final candidate will be required to take and pass the Civil Service Exam.*
POSITION EFFECTIVE: The position will remain open until filled.
SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary is $56,218, plus excellent benefits.
