JOB DUTIES:

POSITION: A full-time university staff position is available in the Office of Human Resources beginning on or before September 4, 2018. The working and official title for this assignment is Payroll and Benefits Specialist. This is an expected-to-continue assignment which requires a six-month probationary period. The expected hourly hiring salary will be $17.00 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience processing payroll and benefits transactions using a payroll software program
• Demonstration of:
o Intermediate level experience working with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
o Knowledge of complex payroll policies and procedures such as: Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Worker’s Compensation.
o Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills.
o Exceptional oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
o Exceptional organizational, problem solving, prioritizing, multitasking, and decision making skills.
o Willingness to develop payroll, benefit, and system knowledge by cross-training with other positions within the payroll & benefit area to support co-workers as needed.
o Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusiveness.
• Ability to:
o Understand data relationships, data structure, query language, and data manipulation.
o Maintain confidentiality and integrity of payroll and human resources information.
o Maintain a high level of professionalism and quality service in communicating with and working effectively with a diverse variety of internal and external contacts.
o Analyze complex issues and to use discretion in responding to confidential matters.
o Prioritize and meet multiple conflicting deadlines.
o Work independently as well as a member of a team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience processing payroll and benefits transactions in a large high volume payroll environment.
• Experience using a human resources information system, such as PeopleSoft, for payroll.
• Experience writing, generating, and formatting data from database queries.
• Advanced experience in creating and using Excel spreadsheets including formulas, macros, and pivot tables.

DUTIES:
• (70%) Processing and data entry of payroll and/or benefit information into the database system ensuring accurate and timely entry to meet deadlines.
• (20%) Generate data queries on a regular basis or per request by the Director of Human Resources or designee for use in developing spreadsheets, graphs, presentations, benefit and payroll processing, and/or management decision making.
• (10%) Assist the Director of Human Resources or designee, with any other duties as assigned.
