Job Summary:

The University of Colorado Denver l Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking applications for a PRA to join the Behavior and In Vivo Neurophysiology Core (BINC). This full-time position is responsible for: helping with the daily functions of the core, such as brain surgery in rodents and video-EEG recordings. The PRA will also be responsible for maintenance of the recording cables, computers, swivels and recording cages. This position is full time, and is located at the Anschutz Medical Campus. The successful candidate will assist Dr. Raol in operating the Core, with the goal of becoming autonomous and able to independently perform experiments in mice and rats for the core.

Example of Work:

  • Perform stereotactic guided implantation of electrodes and drug delivery in the rodent brain
  • Set-up video-EEG monitoring instruments to record rats and mice
  • Connect rats and mice for video-EEG recording
  • Routinely evaluate electrode and EEG quality of ongoing video-EEG recording, and back-up data
  • Train Core users in stereotactic guided surgeries and video-EEG monitoring
  • Core management duties include ordering laboratory supplies, tracking of orders and expenses, maintaining inventory, ensuring compliance with university policies.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. or B.A. degree in neuroscience, biology, bioengineering, veterinary science or a closely related field.


Condition of Employment:

  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check


Required Competencies: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Comfortable handling live mice and rats.
  • Applicants should be well organized, reliable, independent, and possess considerable attention to detail skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with rats or mice.
  • Experience with electrode implantation or other stereotaxic procedures and/or video-EEG monitoring, and electrophysiology.
  • Experience with in vivo animal models.
