The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at St. Michael's Hospital in partnership with the University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology is currently recruiting one (1) full-time qualified academic OBSTETRICIAN/GYNAECOLOGIST with demonstrated evidence and subspecialty training in Minimally Invasive Gynaecologic Surgery (MIGS). In alignment with the strategic vision of the hospital and department for MIGS, the preferred areas of clinical care, research and education will be focused on the (1) management of medically and/or surgically complex patients with benign gynecologic disorders, (2) development of a recognized provincial referral centre for medically and surgically complex patients with grade 1 endometrial cancer, and (3) advanced surgical endometriosis management. The candidate will have demonstrated excellence in both research and surgical education to fulfill this role. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2018.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology as part of the Inner City Health Program at St. Michael's Hospital, is the ideal centre for managing patients with medical and surgical complexity in gynaecology due to its commitment to patient-centered multidisciplinary care, its integrated approach to community health, its extensive ability to provide critical care support and its consistent and ongoing access to the surgical robot, made possible by the generosity of donor funding. As a result, our department has one of the busiest robotic units for surgical gynaecology in Canada. As well, the diversity in surgical expertise of our faculty members allows patients the full range of surgical access routes. The hospital's recent corporate merger with St. Joseph's Health Centre and Providence has the potential to create collaborative programs in surgical gynaecology.

St. Michael's also provides extensive opportunities for collaboration in research, surgical education and knowledge translation through the Li Ka Shing Institute for Knowledge Translation, Centre for Urban Health Solutions (CUBHS), Applied Health Research Centre (AHRC), Centre for Research in Inner City Health (CRICH), Allan Waters Family Simulation Centre, Centre for Faculty Development and access to ICES (Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences) scientists.

The St. Michael's Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto and provides learning experiences for fellows, obstetrics and gynaecology residents, family practice residents, interns, medical students, and students of nursing and midwifery. The department is proud to maintain robust, award-winning research activities and a strong, multidisciplinary, continuous quality improvement program and gynaecology tumour board conferences in collaboration with Princess Margaret Hospital on a regular basis. St. Michael's was the first teaching hospital to participate in the Managing Obstetrical Risk Efficiently (MoreOB) pilot project.

The Department currently has a total of 17 faculty members: 4 MIGS fellowship-trained and 9 core obstetrician-gynaecologists, 1 urogynaecologist, and three maternal fetal medicine fellowship-trained subspecialists. As a whole, the department is able to provide comprehensive care to the community over a full range of patient needs. The hospital does approximately 3,000 deliveries per year and the obstetrical activities are fully supported by a level 2C neonatal intensive care unit which will be undergoing a complete renovation and expansion planned to begin in 2019. The Department collaborates with other maternity care disciplines such as Family Medicine and Midwifery, and is committed to interdisciplinary maternity care in partnership with other medical and surgical departments and divisions.

The successful candidate will practice both Obstetrics and Gynaecology, with a focus on MIGS. Clinical responsibilities will include prenatal and gynaecology outpatient clinics (including colposcopy and vulvar health), surgical gynaecology and full participation in the on-call roster for obstetrics and gynaecology.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the department's educational responsibilities and clinical and research activities. Specifically, the candidate would become part of the MIGS group and take part in fellowship-level training.

Qualified applicants should be licensed or eligible for a license to practice in the province of Ontario with accreditation in Obstetrics and Gynaecology through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Additional formal fellowship training in MIS is strongly desired. The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment with the University of Toronto's Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor.

Completion of relevant graduate training (MSc or PhD level) is strongly desired, such that the successful candidate demonstrates the ability to develop an independent program of grant-funded research. The University job description of Clinician Investigator is consistent with at least one day/week of protected academic time. Compensation for the protected time will be provided jointly by the hospital and University departments. The successful applicant will be expected to apply for Clinician Investigator matching funds provided annually on a competitive basis by the University of Toronto Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology (4 year renewable term with annual assessment). Evidence of academic interest and expertise aligned with the strategic vision of the hospital and department are preferred. The successful applicant will have a full-time hospital appointment, join the department practice plan, and receive alternate funding plan (AFP) support.
