GW’s Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Tropical Medicine (MITM) conducts innovative, fundamental, basic and translational research for HIV/AIDS and neglected tropical diseases. MITM has a strong tradition of training and policy advocacy for these infectious and parasitic diseases, which initiate and perpetuate poverty and suffering worldwide. MITM is searching for a full-time Research Assistant for Dr. Lynch’s laboratory. Dr. Lynch’s main interest is to characterize the humoral immune response to viral infections such as HIV and Zika as well as to develop new HIV eradication strategies.
This position will assist the current Lynch Lab researchers in planning, executing, and analyzing immunology and virology experiments in the context of HIV-1 and/or flavivirus infection. The individual will conduct experiments under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator and will also receive mentoring and direct guidance from the Principal Investigator in order to advance their career in academic research.
•Provide assistance to Postdoctoral scientists and Lynch lab by generating lab reagents.
•Plan and schedule independent experiments consistent with the timeline and objectives of ongoing research projects.
•Optimize, develop, qualify and execute the following assays: ELISA, PCR, molecular cloning and neutralization assays.
•General maintenance of the laboratory. Maintenance of Good Laboratory Practice, comply with Biosafety guidelines, keep inspection records and generate SOPs and reports.
•Maintain and troubleshoot equipment.
•Participate in group meetings and present data
•Perform any other duties as appropriate within their competence, as required.
Incumbent is expected to work well as part of a team and have enthusiasm for the practice of science.Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:
BS in Microbiology or related field.
Ability to follow a set procedure and ability to work both as a team and independently.
Experience in immunology-based and molecular biology techniques including but not limited to: PCR, ELISA, nucleic acid extractions, cell culture and aseptic technique.
Knowledge of human work, clinical samples handling, molecular and cell biology techniques.
