Job Description Summary:

Benefits is responsible for administering the university's benefit programs, including health and welfare, retirement and tuition remission benefits. Benefits Administration also conducts employee benefit orientation, education, and enrollment of all programs for new employees to GW.

This position is responsible for day-to-day operations and transactions of front line services provided by the Benefits team including, but not limited to, providing guidance and information related to suite of benefits offered and enrollment instructions pertaining to group health, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, life and AD&D, flexible spending plan, health savings accounts, retirement plan, leave/time off, tuition remission.

This role handles all incoming and outgoing correspondence received via the benefits phone line, fax and [email protected] as well as any walk in customers. Provides timely and accurate responses to benefits inquiries by managers and employees regarding processes, policies, and program/plan provisions. Exercises judgement in assessing and identifying inquiries/issues that require escalation to supervisor or appropriate benefits team member. Assists employees with claim issues as needed, serving as a liaison with vendors, when required.

This position is also responsible for maintaining/tracking/scanning data and information received related to participation in selected benefit plans/programs, as well as actions processed, such as benefit enrollments, retirement plan transactions and changes; supporting the coordination and communication of benefits related events and presentations; supporting the implementation and administration of various department initiatives; performing, or assisting with various projects, processes, and programs; ensuring compliance with all applicable federal and state employment laws and maintaining the confidentiality of all information.

Maintain a broad knowledge of university policies, benefit plan documents and legal and regulatory updates as it relates to employee benefits and group health and welfare and retirement plans.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Ability to handle information of a confidential nature and ensure that such information is secured and maintained in an appropriate manner.
