The Department of Public and Environmental Safety exists to support the goals of the university – teaching, research and patience care – by fostering a safe and secure environment in which members of the Tufts Community can learn, work, and live. Representative (ASR) is responsible for all customer-service related interactions within Administrative Services; adherence to established cash controls; coordination with the Boston and Grafton Campus for related functions; updating parking and building access databases; and programing/maintaining electronic locks. The duties of the position include, but are not limited to, administering parking permits; processing electronic parking violation appeals; creating and replacing IDs; in strict compliance with governance and direction, granting ID card access to authorized spaces for authorized users; cancelling ID card access as directed; creating timed access levels and scheduled overrides in in the university’s access control database -DSX; providing information for campus shuttle systems; reconciling sales; managing the Dowling Garage; and creating reports for the following items: permit sales; Bursar’s office fee transfers; number of citations issued; and number of appeals requested, etc., and other duties as assigned.

The ASR must possess superior customer service skills; It is desirable that the ASR have some knowledge of electronic parking access and control system; knowledge of parking enforcement handheld equipment; and a basic understanding of ID card databases and software.

The ASR operates primarily in a customer service role and as such is one of the most public facing roles in the department. It is critical that the ASR possess a positive, informative and service oriented attitude.

Basic Requirements:

  • 1 to 3 years of related experience.
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator’s license with no serious or patterned adverse driving history.
  • Typing, office productivity software, ability to learn specialized-function software, web-based applications, forms, and email, Microsoft Windows operating system and suite of Microsoft productivity software, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • The candidate must pass a criminal history records check and background investigation.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Vocational/Technical training or Associates Degree and/or 3 to 5 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of electronic parking systems.
  • Knowledge of building access systems.
  • Knowledge of databases.
  • Knowledge of handheld citation writers.
