Job Description
The UNT Dallas College of Law invites applications for the position of Coordinator of Financial Services and Curriculum Management. The UNT Dallas College of Law (COL) is a new public law school that enrolled its first class in Fall 2014. The College of Law strives to provide a legal education that is affordable and accessible, and that incorporates best practices in educating legal professionals. Located within a major metropolitan area that currently lacks a public law school, the UNT Dallas College of Law will increase opportunities for local college graduates to attend law school without the costs associated with relocation or private tuition.

The Coordinator of Financial Services and Curriculum Management will report to (1) the UNT Dallas College of Law Assistant Dean for Academic Services and Law Registrar and (2) the UNT Dallas Director of Financial Aid, depending on the responsibilities involved. This position is important to the law school and our students because it administers the financial aid program that enables a majority of our students to pay for their tuition, fees and expenses. It is also important because it determines when and in what classrooms courses are taught, based on the academic needs of our students, so that student enrollment is properly executed and so that academic records and course examinations are properly structured. Finally, this position is important because it helps our students continually audit and receive advice about their financial and academic standing at the law school.

Job responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • In charge of helping students with their financial aid needs on a timely basis.
  • Ensuring that all financial aid regulatory requirements are met on time.
  • Coordinating with all financial aid providers is accomplished by applicable time guidelines.
  • Coordinating all curriculum planning with administrators and faculty to insure that the schedule for classrooms and periods are accomplished on a timely basis.
  • Monitoring curriculum policies and procedures for improvements and necessary changes.
  • Assisting with all enrollment issues, including student registration.
  • Assisting with course examinations, to include proctoring and determination of scholastic honors.
  • Auditing student records.
  • Advising our students about their academic and financial standing.
  • Performing such other duties as are needed in regard to financial aid services and registrar services.

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of professional related experience in admissions, registrar, student financials and/or financial aid; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Experience in university of law school admissions, registrar, student financials, and/or financial aid
  • Knowledge of effective managerial methods and techniques on how to establish and maintain an effective workforce
  • Ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of subordinates
  • Thorough knowledge of university policies and procedures related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate)
  • Thorough knowledge of Texas rules and regulations related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate)
  • Ability to plan and conceptualize and make sound business decisions
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a related field and seven years of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Exceptional service orientation
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of internal constituents; including the Dean, faculty and administrators of the College of Law, and counterparts in other organizations within the University
  • Knowledge of student payment and/or financial aid funding mechanisms, regulations, methods for assessing need, accounting principles
  • Experience with maintaining computerized database using specialized software
  • Knowledge and experience as to data analysis, reporting, and institutional effectiveness
  • Knowledge and experience as to other areas of student services and software relating to those services
  • Higher Education experience
  • PeopleSoft skills experience
  • Ability to plan and conceptualize and make sound business decisions
  • Strong presentation skills

Physical requirements necessary to perform essential job functions
Work is primarily sedentary. Sits comfortably to do the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, or lifting items weighing up to 15 pounds.
