Field Research Assistant - Winter Crops (Seasonal)
Reporting to the PI, this position will assist in the field/lab work related with a research project entitled "Lupin, cereal rye and carinata winter cover crops for biomass in the southern coastal plain" and as needed for related research activities. The candidate is expected to work with students, conduct experiments , collect and analyze data, write reports, maintain records/log books/ lab equipment/ inventories, and order supplies. The position is seasonal: 40 hours per week for up to 6 months.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs research related field/lab work under direct supervision
- Work with supervisor for planning and executing research activities as part of a team to perform daily required maintenance of research activities, maintaining tidiness of work areas, taking observation, and data recording, maintaining research note books, analyzing data using statistics, writing conclusion of research observation, presenting result in professional meetings and writing journal articles for publication.
- Work to create a safe work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Master's degree from an accredited institution in a related field of study.
Prior experience working in the field, experience conducting lab research.
Climate controlled environment (laboratory), Outdoor weather conditions (field); occasional travel required for research activities; occasional evening/night/weekend work may be required
Ability to work outdoors, in the greenhouse, and in the labs
Occasional standing or sitting for extended periods of time lifting heavy objects, performing repetitive tasks, and so forth.
Ability to lift and carry items up to 40 lbs. as needed
