Position Summary
The position provides clinical, emergency, consultation and outreach services to the Susquehanna University community. The coordinator provides clinical expertise in at least one of the following: eating disorders, mood and anxiety disorders, men's issues, MBSR, or DBT. The Counseling Center staff functions in a cooperative and collaborative environment, and the coordinator contributes to this both internally and within the larger university. Consistent with our commitment to provide a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for all persons who walk through our door, the coordinator provides culturally appropriate services to all students. This is a full-time 10-month position (August through May).
Outreach Responsibilities

  • Support the Counseling Center through the provision of preventive wellness programming, health education including but not limited to planning and implementation social marketing campaigns, depression/anxiety screening days, advertisement of the Counseling Center's services, leading mental health theme weeks, substance abuse prevention, suicide prevention programs
  • Partner with Director and other colleagues to coordinate the Counseling Center's social media presence along with other marketing initiatives.
  • Develop and lead strategic initiatives related to outreach, prevention, consultation, and mission of the Counseling Center
  • Extend the Counseling Center's work with underrepresented groups
  • Supervise the Peer Education program including but not limited to building
    training curriculum, setting learning goals, scheduling, and evaluation.
  • Provide leadership to the University community regarding assessment of mental health and AOD educational needs
  • Participate in outreach and peer training efforts, particularly in areas of expertise, including collaborating with Student Life staff and/or faculty
  • Lead the Counseling Center assessment program including outcome measures, client satisfaction and student learning outcomes.
  • Develop and implement an outreach plan for underrepresented and at-risk populations
    Clinical Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical counseling services (individual & group therapy, on-line WellTrak program, evaluation, crisis intervention, referral) to Susquehanna University students.
  • Maintain relevant paperwork and documentation.
  • Consult with students, parents, faculty and staff regarding mental health and developmental needs of students as needed and appropriate.
  • Periodically provide evening and weekend on-call coverage during the academic year.
  • Provide Clinical Supervision to pre-masters and/ post master's counselors
    Other Responsibilities
  • Participate in/chair committees as assigned by the Director on an ongoing or as needed basis.
  • Occasionally represent the Counseling Center at University events such as Admissions Open Houses and other Campus events
  • Assume oversight for Counseling Center when the Director is unavailable.

    Required Qualifications
    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
    Knowledge of English language including meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar. Skilled at written and verbal communication, including formal presentation to groups. Ability to set priorities and advocate team concepts; work collaboratively with faculty and staff.
    Master's in psychology, counseling, or social work required.
    Appropriate licenses or license-eligible in Pennsylvania required.
    Three years' clinical experience required.
    Physical Demand
    Position requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time. Position requires the ability to move about the campus. Position requires the ability to talk and to hear instruction. Position requires occasional manual dexterity and the ability to use fingers, hands, and arms to feel, handle, and reach. Position requires occasional stooping, crouching and bending. Position requires the ability to occasionally lift up to 10 pounds. Working conditions are normal office environment and indoor.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Doctorate psychology, counseling, or social work preferred.
    Experience working within a college or university counseling center, experience or expertise in working with men and masculinity issues and experience working with a diverse population strongly preferred.
