Working Title Lecturer - Photography

Job Summary

The College of Arts, Letters & Education is requesting to fill a permanent Lecturer in Photography position in the Department of Art to begin mid-September 2018.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate classes in all levels of Photography - both film (darkroom) and digital, Art in the Humanities (Art Survey), possibly Digital Art, 2-D Foundations and other courses as appropriate to the candidate's experience and departmental need.

The candidate will be welcomed into an academic community dedicated to cultural diversity, community engagement, and social justice.

Teaching: typical workload for this position will involve 45 credits per academic year, subject to department needs.

Responsibilities will include teaching courses in the areas of Art in the Humanities, 2-D Foundations and Photography (Digital and Film).

The position also requires the faculty member to participate in departmental BFA critiques, manage the area of photography which includes a darkroom, and co-manage digital print facilities. The candidate is not required to serve on committees.

Additionally, all faculty are expected to actively participate in assessment of student learning and to engage in effective teaching.

This positions requires upkeep with Health & Safety protocols established by EWU.

Required Qualifications:
  • MFA in Studio Art
  • Expertise in Photography, digital and analog in the field of fine art.
  • Knowledge of contemporary art.
  • Works in Portfolio submission reflect research and professional practice in the field of fine art photography
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Successful teaching experience at the university or college level.
  • Ability to teach 2-D Foundations, Art in Humanities, Digital Art, and other courses as appropriate to the candidate's experience and departmental need.
  • Assessment background with proficiency in academic writing.
  • Experience with Health & Safety protocols.
