The Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art invites nominations and applications for the position of regular, limited-term Instructor. This position is located on the Armstrong campus.

In January 2017, the University System of Georgia Board of Regents voted to consolidate Armstrong State University and Georgia Southern University. The new, 27,000-student university will be named Georgia Southern University with campuses in Savannah, Statesboro, and Hinesville. [Not all programs are available on both the Statesboro and Armstrong (Savannah) campuses; Art in Life (Art Appreciation) is the only course offered on the Liberty (Hinesville) campus. The administrative office of the Department is on the Statesboro campus.]

The Department offers courses in Animation, Art History, Ceramics, Drawing, Graphic Design, Jewelry/Small Metals, Painting, Printmaking, Paper and Book Arts, Photography, and Sculpture. The Department is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.

Position Description. Reporting to the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art (BFSDoArt) Chairperson, the limited-term instructor requires teaching experience in Foundation studio art courses and ART1000 Art in Life (Art Appreciation) survey. Department service responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: student advising, department governance and curriculum participation, and student recruitment. All limited-term positions are non-tenure track, academic (9/10 month) year appointments. Appointments are for one year only, although there is the possibility of reappointment should funding permit and based upon satisfactory performance. (All reappointments are made on a one-year basis.) The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned MFA in Studio ART or a closely related field by August 1, 2018.
  • 1-3 years as the (Instructor of Record) for ART1000/Art Appreciation courses, 2D-Design, Drawing, Painting, and/or related studio foundation art courses.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1-3 years teaching experience in Foundation Art studio related courses and Art Appreciation related courses.

    Screening of applications begins 7/20/18, and continues until the position is filled. The preferred position starting date is August 1, 2018.
