General Summary

Coordinate, supervise and administer the health care program for all student-athletes within the department of intercollegiate athletics. Operate with integrity and adhere to all NCAA, conference, and institutional rules as a leader of our department.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Adhere to any and all NCAA, Mid-American Conference and Eastern Michigan University policies, rules, regulations, and operational procedures. 

Provide athletic training care and services which include: the prevention, recognition and assessment, management and care, health counseling and education, and rehabilitation for injuries and illnesses to student-athletes within the intercollegiate athletic program, as described in the Role Delineation Study of the National Athletic Trainers' Association, under the medical direction of the department of intercollegiate athletics team physicians. 

Serve as the primary athletic trainer for the football team. 

Develop and coordinate a total health care program for all student-athletes within the department of intercollegiate athletics. 

Coordinate and direct physician care, physician referrals, physician event coverage, and pre-participation physical examinations. 

Attend athletic practices and competitions in order to provide appropriate athletic training services to student-athletes in the intercollegiate athletic training program. 

Coordinate and administer the department of intercollegiate athletics alcohol and other drug policies, including alcohol and other drug education, counseling and drug testing programs. 

Direct the preparation and maintenance of official medical records for student-athletes participating in varsity sports. Develop and implement an appropriate reporting and documentation system in accordance with all state and federal laws for communication with coaches, administrators, and parents. 

Coordinate and administer the budget for all areas of the health care program. 

Coordinate and maintain inventory and all records of supplies and equipment within the athletic training facilities. 

Maintain all records of student-athletes participating in sports in the intercollegiate athletic program. 

Coordinate and administer secondary insurance coverage for athletic injury/illness. 

Develop and implement emergency action plans for athletic events and practices. 

Work with dietitian and sports performance to develop optimal student-athlete meal and supplement options. 

Provide clinical teaching experience in accordance with Eastern Michigan University's Athletic Training Education Program and the National Athletic Trainers' Association standards is necessary. 

Maintain National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification. 

Perform related departmental duties as required.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in related field is required. Master's degree in athletic training or a related field is preferred. 

Certification by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification is required. 

Athletic training licensure to practice within the State of Michigan is required. 

At least five (5) years of experience as an athletic trainer at the collegiate or professional sports level is necessary.

Prior experience serving as a trainer for a football team, at either the collegiate or professional level, is preferred.
